NBA  > New York Knicks  > I'd rather have Dwight Howard than Carmelo Anthony

If I were going to pay a max contract to a player, I'd do the following. First wait until the offseason and not trade in the middle of the year.

If you look at what the Knicks have now, they have 2 players that average over 30ppg from the SF position combined. What they need is defense, not another offensive player to fill the same spot that they are getting good production from allready.

Offseason should be about recruiting Dwight Howard to come to NY. If the Magic suck in the playoffs this year, they will have will have tanked with the best possible team they can put on the floor. There is no improvement, only declining performance from Arenas, Richardson, Turk, etc. So where is the incentive for Dwight Howard to stick around on a team that should be blown up if they can't get deep into the playoffs.

How about a shot at being the New York Knicks starting center? Featuring a lineup of All Stars Howard and Stoudamire, Gallanari, Fields or Azubuke, and Felton. With Mozgov, Turiaf, all everything Chandler, and Douglas rounding out the rotation. A deep 10 man rotation. Lots of Defense. Better yet, talented frontcourt to build around that is defensive and athletic.

Better than the Pistons Wallace and Wallace of a few years ago. Forget about the SF, go for the center, and keep Wilson. The Knicks could be a defensive presence and have post players that can take them to championships for the next 5 years easily.

Howard is not leaving Orlando any time soon. They won't let that happen. If they do, it will be a HUGE mistake.

If Howard were going to leave the Magic with the specific intention of joining talented players that give him a chance at a championship......that certainly would not be with the KNICKS. I'm not saying they wouldn't be a good team with him because Howard is the only dominant center in the league. If hes on a team with any other star player its going to be a good team. But there would be so many better opportunities than the Knicks. This is just a bad idea for Howard.

The future is becoming clear for the Knicks. I love Melo but he is less valuable in a Lin run offense. He might even be destructive, slowing it down, making his teammates stand around and watch him. I particularly like Chandler, but hey, the two of them for Dwight Howard? It would be a package that Orlando might take. Plus it would free up all kinds of money

Not a Knicks fan but I will tell you this.... You are better off with Carmelo. Don't listen to the talking heads who say otherwise cos they love to speculate. Carmelo will do fine in a Lin run offense. It will actually help both players and the team. The Knicks with Carmelo and Amare struggled because they lacked cohesion. Lin's ball handling skills will help create that cohesion. I completely disagree that Carmelo cannot work with Lin. Be grateful you have Carmelo. You Knick fans are way too fickle.
