NCAA Questions Four In Louisiana About Auburn

Posted by Brooks on Feb. 16, 2011, 1:32pmMonday NCAA investigators descended on Thibodaux, Louisiana, to meet individually with Auburn football recruit Greg Robinson, Robinson???s mother Lydia, Robinson associate Sean Nelson and Robinson???s former Thibodaux High School Coach Dennis Lorio.

At issue in those meetings was Robinson???s recruitment by Auburn, which raised red flags after an investigative piece by Thayer Evans at FOXSports.com in early January.

In a private meeting held at Thibodaux high school on Monday, Lorio met with an NCAA investigator and a Thibodaux high school official.

During the meeting Lorio was asked by an NCAA investigator about Auburn???s recruitment of former Thibodaux high school players Trovon Reed and Robinson. More specificially, Lorio was asked about the role Nelson played in the recruitment of both players and the nature of Nelson???s relationship with the Auburn coaching staff.
Also discussed between Lorio and an NCAA investigator was numerous trips Nelson took to Auburn with Reed and Robinson, and an iPhone that Robinson allegedly acquired following a trip to Auburn.

Additionally, Lorio was asked by an NCAA investigator to expound on the following comment he made to Evans in the FOXSports.com piece:

???How did players from Thibodaux, La., become so interested in Auburn???? Lorio asks. ???That???s a really good question. Trooper Taylor and Sean Nelson would know.

Taylor is an assistant football coach at Auburn who was involved in the recruitment of Reed and Robinson.

While Auburn???s recruitment of Reed and Robinson was the center of the conversation between Lorio and the NCAA investigator, multiple sources indicate that the NCAA is also focusing its attention on so-called ???street agents??? like Nelson, with similar NCAA probes currently taking place around the country.

Nelson, Reed and Robinson all denied any impropriety involving Auburn???s recruitment of the two players in Evans??? FOXSports.com piece.

When contacted via email about NCAA representatives being in Thibodaux on Monday, NCAA spokesman Stacey Osburn replied in an email, ???The NCAA cannot comment on current, pending or potential investigations.???

For more on the story later today, visit FOXSports.com.

Thibodaux has traditionally been a gateway school to LSU and in the last two years, with the help of, Trooper "Lean on Me" Taylor, have managed to take two of the states best players. 4 Star receiver Trevon Reed, and 4 Star OL Greg Robinson. Somethings fishy at the Cow College and the NCAA and FBI will get the bottom of it.
Granted that Cam Newton will be in the NFL by that time and will be enjoying his unprecidented Under Armour contract newly minted, but they will fall and come crashing to the ground.

Sour grapes? You may ask. No we finished higher than them in recruiting this year and have La'el Collins as our future LT. Something is definitely strange.

I'm not going to accuse AU and/or Trooper and Nelson just yet, But I can and will say for 100% certainty that the NCAA is on the ground in Thibodeaux, La. as we speak.
AU fans and team coaches should at the very least be very concerned that the NCAA flew all the way down to Thibodeaux to interview several people and investigate something.

Those AU guys that say it is because of Lorio are clueless, He is not governed by the NCAA and does not have to even meet with them if he doesn't want to.

THS principal Kevin George forced Lorio to resign, Lorio is as you all know a very Pro LSU guy, having coached under Hallman at LSU.

IMO, and I reiterate it is only My opinion, Lorio will do what's right since he is seeking another HC gig in Louisiana HS football, No way he would jeopardize his career and go down with this, especially since he has no connections or loyalties to AU whatsoever.

The NCAA states that they cannot comment about an Ongoing investigation, That statement right there spells big trouble for Chizik, Taylor and the AU fb program Imo.

If Nelson turns out to be what we think he is, AU could be slapped with at the very least lack of Institutional control and many, many major NCAA violations.

Several of us down here that played Louisiana HS football and coached have been saying all along that AU stepped way out of bounds but have been called every name in the book by the AU people on here. Well now the Investigation is getting ramped up and supposedly something was just uncovered that sped things up.

HBO is getting ready to release something involving the MSU/Bond side of the CAM investigation, the NCAA is in Thibodeaux, the FBI supposedly has some very incriminating evidence but cant yet release it before the Lowder investigation is done, Thats 3 smoking irons in the fire from at least two big guns that could cause AU CFB program to become a shell of what they think they are if the accusations are in fact found to be true.

If AU is innocent , which I don't think they are, and I will not comment why I think this, Then they should be cleared, But IMo this is just the beginning of the end for Chizik and especially Taylor at AU. Nelson is untouchable unless a criminal Investigation is launched, which I am told is very possible.

G/L and get your popcorn.

I'm not sure where this is from, but it is from someone from the LSU side....

The guy says he is a former player and coach in the Louisiana family. I "quoted" you to get it in the quote, but it is different than what you posted.

I've seen the SBB article. My quote was pulled from possibly Tigerdroppings.com?

February 16, 2011  05:36 PM ET

As an Auburn fan, I'm now concerned because there's more smoke but here's the full quote from Lorio. Lot of spin in the original post.

"I can't say what Auburn did because I don't know and I wasn't involved very much," Lorio said Wednesday. "I really don't know truthfully."

"My answer is what went on with Greg's recruitment, you're going to have ask (Auburn assistant) Trooper Taylor, Greg, his parents and, I believe, Sean Nelson. I don't have any more answers because I don't know."

The article referred to on Sports by Brooks is http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/story/NCAA-investigation-of-Aubur n-recruiting-Greg-Robinson-Trovon-Reed-021611

Gave a little more info.

Sounds like Florio believes that Nelson and Taylor are pretty dirty.

February 16, 2011  11:58 PM ET

Nelson is Reeds legal guardian. So how is him taking Reed to Auburn for visits fishy? And how is said player trying to convince a former teammate fishy? Thayer Evans has had a hardon for Auburn for the past few months. If he wants to investigate something how about the fan who called Paul Finebaum and bragged about putting herbacide on the live Oaks on Toomers Corner.

I think you're right. My guess is they were probably going to announce it today after arresting him but conveniently bumped it up to last night.
