Why does ESPN and SI have Tampa ahead of Dallas since the cowboys have the head to head tie-breaker?
December 21, 2008  07:28 PM ET

It don't matter any more... the Falcons just waved bye bye to both of them.

December 21, 2008  10:20 PM ET

Cowboys win, they are in. Bucs and Eagles win, Bucs are in. Eagles win and Bucs lose, Eagles are in. Vikes and Bears are a separate issue - I don't think either can be a wildcard due to conference tiebreaker. Falcons win knocked out Skins.
I'd suggest the NFL go to a four team format with Atlanta, Carolina, the Giants and the fourth team picked via a lottery. The other NFC teams are playing so poorly right now, none of them deserve to be in the playoffs.

December 21, 2008  10:47 PM ET

It doesn't matter how poorly they are playing that isn't the point. If you make the playoffs you deserve to make the playoffs hands down.

December 21, 2008  11:33 PM ET

Jay, that doesnt make any sense. The Cowboys lost this weekend, but they killed the Giants last weekend. Are you saying the Giants shouldnt be in the playoffs either??

December 22, 2008  12:27 AM ET

You're right: it doesn't matter. My prediction for the Cowboys has just about come true.
I said they'd finish 8 and 8 and miss the playoffs. Looks as though I'll be one game off
(9 and 7) because it's a near certainty that they will lose to the Eagles next week. The problem is threefold: Romo is not an NFL-caliber quarterback, the team lacks discipline and the secondary cannot cover. Gross underachievers.

LOL.

Romo may not be an elite QB in this league, but he is certainly NFL caliber.

Dallas beats the gargoles I think thier in

December 22, 2008  01:53 AM ET

If Dallas wins next week they're in. Don't care what SI or ESPN has. Right now Dallas is the #6 seed. If they win they retain it, if they lose they can't get in no matter what Tampa does simply because Philly would have a better record by half a game. All Dallas needed today to retain controlling their own destiny was to have either Atlanta or Tampa lose.

December 22, 2008  02:08 AM ET

BASICALLY NOW THE COWBOYS R DONE. THE FALCONS WILL BEAT THE RAMS, THE BUCS WILL BEAT THE RAIDERS, AND THE "BOYZ" WILL GET BEAT THE EAGLES. HAVE FUN IN HAWAII WITTEN, AT LEAST YOULL BE ABLE TO HEAD THERE EARLY.

I said at the beginning of the year the Cowboys would finish 10-6 and go into the playoffs as a wild card. Do they deserve to go? Absolutely if they beat Philly, in Philly, the same city that boed Santa Claus and cheered when Michael Irvin's career was ended on the Veteran's stadium turf. But my frustration is all about what the Cowboys will do once they're in. Offense is too sporadic and Tony Romo is not an NFL quarterback. I don't care what you think about Mr. Hollywood, but remember, no one drafted him coming out of a Div 2 school and had it not been for Sean Payton, Dallas would have never taken a chance. Trivia question, outside of Kurt Warner, how many non-drafted QB 's have ever gone on to have pro bowl caliber seasons? That list is mighty short.

Sure the D gave up 2 long runs at the end, but they saved our bacon for the entire game against the Ravens. I don't fault them at all. Like Pittsburgh, that loss was all on the offense.

WIN AND WE'RE IN!

December 22, 2008  09:08 AM ET

Romo is not Monatana, but to say hes not NFL caliber? LOL

dude must be a giants fan.

One more chance-----GO COWBOYS

December 22, 2008  10:27 AM ET

After listening to Cowboy fans run smack about Atlanta for the past few years, let me just sit back and savor how things have now turned out. I've never met a more arrogant group of fans, and God has now sorted your arrogance out. I hope the Cowboys lose next week. That will shut you up for good...or at least until next season.

Excuse me...I meant the last few weeks, not years.

You and Ray Charles friends? Maybe you both share the same sun glasses?

1st off, how is it a near certainty that the Boys will loose to the Eagles? It will be a tough game for sure but take NOTHING for granted.

2ndly, Romo not an NFL caliber QB? Ok...bozo...the guy is ranked 2nd in the ENTIRE league in QB rating, and has over 80td passes vs 40 ints with a career rating just over 95...if that is not a NFL caliber QB, I would love to see what your definition of one is?

Lastly, the secondary can't cover? who are you kidding? They are 9th in total defense and Terrence Newman is a Top 5 corner in this league.

You may not like Dallas but please post an opinion that actually has some substance...all I see is another idiot blog poster.

The secondary can't cover? Ok...the D is ranked 8th in the league and has one of the best CB's in the league plus is playing its 3rd string saftey at strong and in dime

That has to be one of the most outragious posts I have read in a long time. I'm so tired of hearing this crap about "this is why he wasn't drafted blah blah BS." The bottom line is that he is one of the best in the league and Saturday night showed that. He sucked the whole game and came back in the clutch when it mattered. On top of that the last 4 mins of that game when he drove not once but twice and scored on both occassions there was always one free man coming up the middle right as he got the ball. The defense lost that game for us plain and simple. They gave up two huge plays that should have never happened regardless of what the first half or the fir 56 mins of the game were like. There is no excuse, because at the D did no such thing then Romo would be touted as a great QB that came back in the clutch and won the game under severe pressure. So please enough with this garbage.
