NFL  > Cleveland Browns  > Offense or defense with the first pick?
February 24, 2011, 10:47 AM
WR, DE, DB...the wholes are numerous, and the Browns need playmakers on all fronts--all but punter/kicker. A J Green, from UGA is the top prospect in the area where Cleveland is most vulnerable on offense: WR. Swtiching to the 4-3 creates plenty of needs on the defensive line, most notably at DE. The Browns landed a solid CB last year in the first round, Haden, and could have the possibility of landing a second corner in Peterson or Amukamara. Holmgren and Shurmur are both offensive minded, so taking a WR with the first pick is not out of the question, but it would seem to me that plugging holes on the defensive line would be the best option for a team that is rebuilding.

Holmgren most likely will draft a WR.

I'd go with the DL,or a DB,then a TE-WR,They did great with aquiring Hillis!!,But They will be keying in on Him this ya do need another Moving target too hit.

Probably right...they moved up in the draft to take Monario Hardesty (U of Tenn) int he second round, but he didn't make it out of training camp...they say that he is on the mend and ready to prove himself...we'll see.

They need a playmaker on defense. Someone that can be a game changer.

I'd love to see a few more hard hitters on the team, but it would be all for naught if the offense can't get out of the starting gate. We need "MULTIPLE" deep threats to spread the field and open it up for the running game.

Scratch the idea of deep threats, they are going with the dink and dunk of the west coast. But we definitely do need a couple sure handed receivers. I'm OK grabbing them through a trade and using the draft to get some fresh defensive talent. How did we pass on Clay Mathews Jr.???? What an irrational move that was.

Still one more Matthews kid out there...a little undersized, but not short on talent, instinct and speed.

The more i think about it, the more I think that Cleveland should take Green if he is still there when they pick in the first round...could be a double edged sword if he could get Massaquoi to step up his game...

Of course, tomorrow i will probably flip-flop back to wanting them to go all defense...I just hope they get some playmakers.

I guess You guys will take whatever's best on Yer 1st pick,no matter which position.

I'm okay with that as long as they don't miss...can't afford to miss since the construction barrels have been put out again.

There are a number of quality WR and DL in this draft, but there's probably more WR. If I was the GM in Cleveland I would look to take an impact DL right away, unless they feel confident they can make an offseason move for a big-time DL. If they can make a move, take a CB first. Otherwise they should select a DL first. There are plenty of quality WR who could slide into the 2nd round... if the Browns play their cards right and make a trade, or just get lucky, they could pick up a guy I have had my eye on, Jonathan Baldwin out of Pitt. 6'5", and can stretch the field.

AJ Green or the best D-lineman available.

One huge variable is the CBA. If the new contract is signed and free agency starts on time it will change the draft. If we can get Holmes (if he can lay off the green) or a somewhat game changer WR, I think you have to go defensive line. And then try to get one of these second or third tier guys in the 2nd or 3rd round. I am a little worried about Quinn being he was out a whole year. I think Roth will make a much better end then LB, however, I don't think Bernard should play all four downs. I would almost lean towards one of the big tackles such as Fairley (if he is there) or Darius (who can move around.) Should be interesting.

No Question, it should be Green ! The Browns have the worst group of WR in the NFL

I think you are right. Holmgren needs to at least give Colt McCoy someone to throw to if he is going to decide to keep him.
