In light of the recent arrest and dismissal of college football athletes around the country and the article in SI that claims a scary total of athletes on scholarship now with criminal histories do you think criminal background checks will now become a part of the recruiting process? The football programs certainly have the means and the money to do this but will they even bother?

Sure they will. College is frrst about getting an education.

It's an interesting idea. After reading the article, I'm not sure you can do anything more than what Pitt is doing going forward - informally asking the right questions. I would also suspect that a majority of these kids don't get in much trouble until they are in school. More might get accomplished if coaches were not allowed so much leniency in dealing with these issues.

Penn State is #4!! Awesomeness.

I sis notice that schools 2-8 were rural schools, out int eh middle of nowhere. I'm not saying the kids are any worse than other schools. I think the city cops probably have bigger fish to fry than underage drinking and pot busts.

I really need to learn to type.

Have you seen the graduation rate for the BCS schools. Definitely not overly concerned with the sheepskin.

PSU ius usually near 75-80%... sooooo.. we graduate more criminals than anyone?

I think some have been using this as a recruiting tool for a long-time...that is if they don't have a record why would they sign them. I will not comment on the school or league!

LSU has 3 that are charged. Ranked #22. Glad to be in the 20's for this. PSU was suprising to me.

It's not a crime down there. It's a Community Fair blue-ribbon contest.

Dadgummit, we are 3rd in the state, behind both FSU and the Canes! We gotta catch those guys!

Also, what's up with Boise being so high? Everybody knows they don't deserve a high ranking...

What a blow to the Big 12 if they implemented criminal background checks. The SEC would be right behind them.

i think it would be big blow just about everywhere...not necessarily every school but every conference.

The story is not suprising.....and it only included the players that have documented issues! NCAA needs to do something as things are spiraling out of control everywhere!

If you dont check backgrounds of every student on scholarship how can you justify only checking on recruits.
