Lightweight

1. Frankie Edgar (13-1-1)
WHile I gained a lot of respect for him on his last fight against Maynard (how can someone come back from that first round???), I disagree he should be at the top.

2. Gilbert Melendez (18-2)
While he didn't fight in a almost an year, IMO he deserves the top spot.

3. Gray Maynard (10-0-1, 1 NC)
Good place for him.

4. Shinya Aoki (26-5, 1 NC)
Disagree. While some does not agree, i do take into consideration K-1. And I didn't like what I saw. He should be one spot lower.

5. Eddie Alvarez (21-2)
I like him. He deserves the #4 spot.

6. Kenny Florian (13-5)
I don't quite like him. he is the Nate Marquadt of the LW. When it counts most he gets gun shy. Maybe now that BJ left he will not respect Frankie as much, but while I acknowledge he is a top athlete, I don't think he is championship material...

7. Tatsuya Kawajiri (27-6-2)
IMO he should be higher, but I am willing to see how he fare against (my) #1

8. Jim Miller (19-2)
Like him. But he's ok where he's at.

9. Sean Sherk (36-4-1)
For the life of me, I can't see how he is at the top 10. Please someone enlighten me. For now though, I will take Clay Guida for his spot.

10. Anthony Pettis (13-1)
Absolutely LOVE this kid and think he should be higher than he is.

My rankings:

1. Gilbert Melendez (18-2)
2. Frankie Edgar (13-1-1)
3. Gray Maynard (10-0-1, 1 NC)
4. Eddie Alvarez (21-2)
5. Shinya Aoki (26-5, 1 NC)
6. Kenny Florian (13-5)
7. Tatsuya Kawajiri (27-6-2)
8. Anthony Pettis (13-1)
9. Jim Miller (19-2)
10. Clay Guida (28-11)

Just FYI though, I am trying to change only one guy just so I don't add too much. By all means, Feel free to add as many as you wish! :)

"While some does not agree, i do take into consideration K-1."

Bear in mind that Aoki's last fight was not a K-1 fight. Also, he lost in the MMA rules round!

March 5, 2011  12:23 PM ET

Well yeah, but I take into account exactly due to that fact. If he would have lost in the first round, I would not count (not fair) but he lost when MMA rules applied. This is why I counted it.

Despite his status as champion, I still have Maynard over Edgar. An undefeated fighter being ranked lower than a fighter he has a 1-0-1 record against just seems....wrong. I'm no Maynard fan, but in this case I'd have to argue against the age old "The champ is #1" maxim.

In a seemingly contradictory stance, I agree with your swapping Aoki and Alvarez, despite Aoki's win over Alvarez. I think Aoki is slipping an Alvarez has only improved. In fact, I'd probably drop Aoki to 6 and elevate Florian over him. That could be short-lived, as Florian is dropping to featherweight soon.

I'd also put Benson in there instead of Guida.

I disagree. Fighters evolve. And Edgar is above Maynard for now. Besides, Edgar beat BJ. Teice. He deserves the nod.

seriously? whoever buys from a bot is a ret@rd.
I don't know if you ever stop to think about it, but instead of helping your business, I actually make sure I would NEVER buy from someone who uses these methods to sell...

Yup, but Alvarez is above Melendez.

That I disagree.

I would put him at #2 (behind Melendez), but not above him.
Maybe if he passes over Pat Curran

That's true. However, one could look at the Maynard-Edgar situation with this eye: Edgar has fought Maynard twice, and with all the evolution in his game, still wasn't able to beat him.

Just an idea.

true. but you should look at things this way:
Maynard was above Edgar once.
Then Edgar evolved. became good enough to beat BJ twice.
And when Maynard was given a chance to dominate again, he came up short.

Now, Edgar tied against him plus he beat BJ twice.
Maynard could not beat Frankie and did not beat BJ.

The nod IMO goes to Edgar
