NFL  > Carolina Panthers  > We should pick up Mike Vick

He is a beast, and everyone makes mistakes.... Give him a chance!!!!!!!

You guys don't need that headache, dude. Sorry. Carolina is poised to win the division without him...

December 23, 2008  12:47 PM ET

Not a chance in hell.

December 23, 2008  04:32 PM ET

I'd hate to stop pulling for the Panthers, and I'd have to if they pick up Vick.

December 23, 2008  08:50 PM ET

Vick deserves a shot somewhere. By way of comparison, there are dozens of wife and girl friend beaters playing in the NFL right now- a charge most would agree is worse than those leveled against #7. Vick lost everything and deservedly so, but he should be be able to play again somewhere. Vick is a hard dude to like--I'll admit that.
Why not Carolina? No QB is more nauseating to watch than Delhomme. When he's not complaining at his WR's or the refs, he's throwing into the flat for 5 yards or heaving it up for grabs to Steve Smith.

December 23, 2008  10:41 PM ET

i'd much rather have delhomme than vick

.....that much I agree with you. The rest I don't because
I can't support individuals who thrive and profit on the
torture of living creatures. It is not the worst act imaginable
but playing in the NFL is a privilage he has lost permanently
lost.

And to be fair why would any team risk ruining their chemestry
by ridding a winner like Jake in favor for a loser like Mike? Hope
he never gets another starting job, horrible human being
and overrated football player

December 24, 2008  08:38 AM ET

In some ways, I feel sorry for the guy, but the Panthers don't need him. He is a great athlete, but the guy brings all that baggage. The animal rights people are going to hound him for the rest of his life. He is going to have to be very repentant in his public and private life to get a second chance. The good part was he pled guilty, did the time and made no excuses that I was aware of. So there may be a place for him somewhere. But not Carolina.

December 24, 2008  11:46 AM ET

vick is evil. He will carry his bad karma with him. Nobody needs to be around that scum.

So true, you reap what you sow

December 24, 2008  12:07 PM ET

Al Davis or Jerry Jones will sign him, so no other team should be interested they are both losers and have bad judgement. The whatever it takes to win attitude is what is leading to all of the off field problems, no matter what the players do they understand a team will give them 3or4 more chances.

Then I hope Jerry Jones does take him. I'd like to see that karma fall on the Cowboys...

Let's break this down.

First, I WOULD agree with you that Vick is a beast - a wild animal with no self-control - except that beasts do not kill for pleasure or profit, only humans are capable of that level of depravity.

Second, yes, everyone makes mistakes. To refer to willful animal torture as a "mistake", however, diminishes Vick's responsibility in his own demise. Accidentally stepping on your dog's tail is a mistake. Torturing your dog to death is not a mistake, it's a CHOICE!

Finally, "Give him a chance!!!"? He was given a chance... when he got drafted into the NFL. He CHOSE to throw it away. End of discussion.

December 24, 2008  05:08 PM ET

I look forward to seeing Vick in the Wildcat Offense that many teams are now using.

December 24, 2008  09:25 PM ET

No way should the Panthers even think about getting Vick. Vick's talents don't fit the game plan that Fox has implemented. We won't even get into the PR nightmare that any NFL team will face if they are contemplating signing him. If Vick plays pro football after his prison stint, it'll probably be in Canada.

December 24, 2008  10:33 PM ET

CFL teams wouldn't sign him. My bet is he will be play arena league ball somewhere or in a semi-pro league. Though I could see Detroit or Oakland signing him.

December 25, 2008  02:15 PM ET

he deserves to be back in the league.....get off his back people! im sure some of you or members of ur family have done things their not proud of or against the law so just let it go. they stuck it to him pretty good already enuf is enuf

December 25, 2008  03:33 PM ET

Here's the problem...no one wants him, except maybe Mr. Senility himself. Deserving or not (and I'm one of those who think he truly deserves it), he's a PR leper.

December 25, 2008  03:34 PM ET

er he (Vick) truly deserves to be vilified...

December 25, 2008  10:18 PM ET

Hell no!!!!!!!!!!!!

December 26, 2008  12:21 PM ET

LOLOL!!! Like Richardson would even sniff at this piece of trash. All you Jake haters need to reflect back to last year and what #17 means to this team.

EyesWIDEOPen hits the nail on the head. Vick CHOSE the path he took, and trying to spin it any other way is horse squeeze.

Carolina has an offense designed to control the ball and gash teams when they load up against either the run or the pass. No QB, not even a Manning or Brady or Favre, would put up gawdy numbers in this scheme. Even suggesting Vick would somehow be an upgrade to this team is pure fantasy. This is the NFL, people, not a Madden video game!
