Has the Bears found there quarterback of Kyle Orton. Or does Chicago need to bring a quarterback in again. Or should the Bears find some wide receivers instead of searching for another quarterback.

Isn't Donovan McNabb available next year?

December 23, 2008  07:05 PM ET

He needs some weapons. There's been too many times where the receivers have dropped passes thrown at them (Booker's drop near the end of regulation pretty much exemplified the problems these receivers have had). The Bears I think have found a hard-working guy who leads the team in both Kyle Orton and Matt Forte, which is a drastic comparison between Rex Grossman and Cedric Benson, who hardly have the ability to lead. Stick to Kyle and go for a decent receiver in the offseason, while also investing in more OL players in the draft. Give Kyle the weapons he needs to do well and he will. I doubt we've seen the full ability of Kyle Orton just yet.

Orton's not the worst qb out there, but it sure would be nice to get a franchise qb someday. While they're at it, how about a new coaching staff and general manager.

December 27, 2008  02:49 AM ET

I think it would be very foolish to give up on Orton after this year. As others have said, give him some receivers (I suppose it would be too much to hope for to trade a couple defenders for Anquan Boldin this offseason) and then see what he can do.

December 27, 2008  09:12 AM ET

The bears QB problem really has a lot to do with the lack of any quality recievers. Poeple have to start looking at tha facts. Is Orton any different than Grossman? If you remeber Rex was offensive player of the month the year they went to the super bowl and then passes were bouncing off hands and he was pressing. Same as Orton in the last 3-4 weeks. I really think that either one could be our QB with a little support. However I am not saying that it wouldn't be great to have McNabb in the Blue and Orange

December 27, 2008  09:37 AM ET

they'll bring in another QB if they're smart.......oh wiat this is the bears we're talking about, i totally forgot they think orton is a hall of famer

Kyle Orton is definitely not the answer at Q.B for the Bears! Orton is doing no better than Grossman did. Yet Orton has better players with a strong O-line & Rookie sensation Forte! With Rex we finished 13-3 & made it to the Super Bowl though. Its curious to wonder how Rex would do with a good O-line & Forte now. Plus the ability to hit Hester down field! I Love Orton, but he is a great #2 Q.B. I hope we keep him for that role. We do have Orton under contract for next season. So he can play 1 more year, while we groom his replacement. Grossman will move on elsewhere I am sure.We need to stabilize our Q.B position Long Term! I would like to see more of Caleb Hanie next year. He seemed to have all the Tools in the short time I saw him play. He had really good pocket presence. He was mobile & picks up yards running when nothing is there. He showed a strong arm to get the ball down field,& was pretty accurate. They were only pre season games,so I would like to see more of him. We might already have Q.B potential right here. We also need to address the Safety position as well as the receiver position. Other areas of weakness are at Defensive end. We should not resign Ogunleye. We need a Maniac at D-end who constantly harasses the Q.b a double digit Sack man. I like Alex Brown on the other side. The last position is corner back. it would be great if we could somehow nail down a shut down Corner. It seems that Vasher got his money and disappeared! I like Charles Tillman, maybe a possibility at safety in time. Anyway, sorry to ramble on. Take care Everyone. BEAR DOWN!! GO BEARS,WE BELIEVE!!

Orton not the guy that for sure.

I would like to see them bring in Matt Cassel from New England. FORGET.... McNabb

December 27, 2008  07:36 PM ET

Not to worry Bears fans, I hear they are already working on a deal to get QB Brady from the Pats in 2013 when he is old and washed up.

December 28, 2008  02:56 AM ET

Kyle Orton is a decent quarterback and for the bears' management that seems to be enough. Our defense will get us at least close to a playoff birth for the next couple years until everyone gets old (some already are), but without a franchise QB we don't have a chance at the Super Bowl and I don't think Orton is That Guy. The receivers need improving and Hester needs to go back to returning kicks, but no team goes anywhere without a good QB in today's NFL and Orton's just decent. McNabb and Cassel are both solid possibilities for next year, but don't forget, we could've had Chad Pennington this year.

December 28, 2008  11:33 AM ET

The bears have had somthing like 27 different starters in the last 25 years they really need a young guy that will stick with the team for a long time but they also need someone THAT CAN COMPLEAT A PASS

I don't think Kyle Orton was the big problem here, any QB would look bad with these receivers. I think you keep Devin Hester and even Lloyd looked good when he was healthy, good no. 3 guy, the rest get rid of (keep TE's). Either draft or trade for a good WR (Anquan Boldin? wait we don't pay offensive players.) You could get him for a 2end or 3rd round draft pick. But the main concern should be the Defence, Babach needs to go, i actually like marinili as the Dline coach. i think orton is good enough to get them good

I think Orton is pretty good. The problem is our O-Line sucks, we have no receivers and Ron Turner is the most predictable offensive coordinator in the league. St. Claire, Beekman, Kreutz, Garza, Tait. The only ones that would even start on a team that's good are Kreutz and Tait and neither would be one of their best O-Linemen. We don't have a #1 or #2 receiver. Hester is getting better, but he would be a #3 or a slot receiver on any team with Super Bowl aspirations. Don't get me started on Turner. I already know what plays he's going to call in the first game of the season next year. Even with all these problems Orton looked pretty good until he got hurt, and I also think that the 3 home games in December skew QB stats. None of the opposing 3 QBs did good in those 3 games and with the Bears defense letting every QB have career days all season except in those games it must have played a huge role.

MIKE VICK!!!!

MIKE VICK!!!! GIVE'M A CHANCE.

Orton would have had great numbers if Davis had not dropped everything including the one's that hit him in the hand's chest and helmet. We could have had a lot more long gains if the reciever coach would teach Hester to leave his feet if the ball is only a foot or foot and a half overthrown. Orton deserves another chance with better recievers. Draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd rnd like Sanchez or Josh Freeman 6'6" 250# and give them time to develope. Hanie should know the playbook well enough to be #2.

January 13, 2009  06:06 AM ET

P.S. I agree with MISTILLPHIX ! If he get's reinstated give him a minimum contract with stipulations that he join PETA and speak at their rallies.

January 13, 2009  09:45 AM ET

Let Orton play the last year of his contract and make him an offer based on his performance. He did a good job before he was injured. Jerry Angelo needs to stop trying to find ways to cut corners and apply the solution to where the problem is. Bring in QUALITY receivers (which means you and the McCaskeys have to spend some money, Jerry) and stop trying to squeeze the last bit of talent out of re-treads. It's not going to work for any QB if they have no one worth throwing to.

And yes, get rid of Ron Turner. I could out-scheme him with plays from Madden '09.
