St Louis Die Hards  > Group Message Board  > The upcoming season of doubts

With all that has gone down since spring training started, I have been wondering a thing or two about the season, howi t will pan out and what will our outcome be when the season crosses the finish line. Here are a few random thoughts:

1. AP....Will Albert's signing with a different team upon completition be a disaster in the making or will the front office cave in to the demands (with some common sense)?

2. We know that Waino has said that he will be ready for spring training next season. That I believe. He (Adam) is very capable of achieving that. My random thought is, who will pick up the slack? Can Carp, Lohse win 15+ games or better? And the other starters?

3. Berkman...While a good signing, what to do with him in NL play and not Interleague play.

4. I think that if we need some solidity with the starting line up, I can think of one player that may be able to help and knows the Cards well. Some may not believe it, but I think Rick Ankiel would be a great re-addition to the team. Has heart, determinition and gives it 110%.

5. While I approve of Jimmy Ballgame coming back to the Cards, his retirement is a little heartbreaking. But I can understand where he is coming from. He is one of the best outfielders in the game and if he doesn't get a nod to the HOF, there is some issues. Bring Jimmy back as an assistant or something. Keep him with the club.

All we can do is just hope that things go well for us and we can get what where we need to be.

I think there are a lot of questions entering this season. I think the biggest one in my mind is probably the potential drop off in defensive play, particularly in the infield. Theriot and Skip scares me in the middle infield, which is why I've advocated Tyler Greene getting playing time at shortstop.

I think the other big question is the rotation. I think the rotation is potentially very solid......IF Lohse can return to form, McClellan can be solid and work deep into games, and Garcia avoids a sophomore slump. Those are some big ifs.

We shall see.....I'm looking forward to the opener on Thursday.

Trying not to have doubts and be super-positive about the season, but yeah the injury to Wainwright and the loss of Brendan Ryan's defense have me the most concerned.

I'm just happy it is time for baseball again.

I am happy for opening day too. I am just a little concerned about the off field concerns that can effect our play.

I'm more concerned about the sloppy, heads-up-their-rears baseball I saw yesterday from the Birds.

and one of the few bright spots yesterday is out for a few weeks.

Whoever ticked off "karma" needs to apologize!
