some ancient sex rules that infringe (in my opinion) in personal freedom and privacy....I know of no religion that punishes folks for having sex. I understand Mormons are not a cult so why act like one...
I just keep looking at the calender year ..IT IS 2011? isn't it... just asking... Some kind of service around campus should of been enough of a punishment for this kid..... there was no need not keep him from an experience of a lifetime, the NCAA tournement.
This was wrong ..period ..

"I understand Mormons are not a cult"

At times I'm not sure. And as absurd as their "honor code" is that kid that got booted off the team for knockin' boots should have know better. And don't tell me that there's NOT a double standard at BYU. ONLY TWO KIDS HAVE VIOLATED THEIR "HONOR CODE"...Harvey Unga (Hawaiian) and this kid. Are they saying that NO white kids at that school are having premarital sex? If so BS!!!!!!!! I would be willing to bet a good amount of money that had that been Jammin' Jimmer and not a black kid that school would have done everything in their power to hide it.

Mormons are very cult like IMO.

March 23, 2011  12:14 PM ET

But that's probably because of where I live. There is a VERY high Mormon population in this area.

We could care less. People in Vegas hate BYU and the Mormons...well, those of us that have lived here for a long time anyway. My personal opinion is that Davies knew what he signed when he entered school. He knew what the consequences were if he violated the rules. Therefore, he deserves the punishment he received. HOWEVER, I also think the BYU "honor" code is archaic. Those kids aren't even supposed to drink coffee for cryin' out loud!! And in how many colleges can you really expect 18, 19, 20 year olds NOT to have sex??

No problem. I used to be a UNLV hoops season ticket holder and I've seen first had how they live up to their "honor code". I was at a regular season game during the 07-08 and I watched first hand as a liquored up BYU fan got physical with a student because the UNLV student was rooting for HIS TEAM. I have zero respect for BYU and their fans.

See? BYU and their fans = not as great as they pretend to be.

I've also seen this first hand. A local, UNLV frequented pizza place, known for their Rebel support...completely taken over by drunken BYU fans prior to a football game. Stupid IMO. I would never dream of going up to Salt Lake City, wearin' Rebel red, gettin' drunk, and then trying to eat at a place that BYU students went to all the time. And no one better say "maybe they didn't know it was a Rebel" hangout. It's right by the University and has Rebel gear all over the walls, etc. They were there to cause trouble...eff you, you Mormon cultists.

Right on Sweets. You summed it up right there. They come to Vegas, can't handle their alcohol and get belligerent. Totally classless.
