NFL  > Pittsburgh Steelers  > steelers fans: how hard would it be to see cower coaching at cleveland?
December 24, 2008, 08:25 PM
it would be pretty hard for me. especially with that rivalry, we've had some good memories and some bad memories with cower but still, it just wont be the same.

I don't really care. I'm very glad that Mike Tomlin is the coach of our Pittsburgh Steelers, and whatever Cowher does, it really doesn't affect the Steelers in any way.

December 25, 2008  05:34 AM ET

Last year, when this stroy first came out, I was upset by the thought. Now I think it would just add to this great rivalry.

December 25, 2008  05:35 AM ET

Of course, Cowher will only take the job if he wants to tarnish his legacy.

December 26, 2008  03:09 PM ET

Best wishes and good luck! From what I've seen though, it's not too terribly hard to fail in Cleveland, yeah? I think he'd be better served going to Washington or San Fran and start completely fresh. No need to add to the stress by having to play us twice a year.

December 26, 2008  06:38 PM ET

I can't say I would mind seeing Cowher spitting and cursing on our sidelines, anyone would be a step in the right direction from that sloth we have now. With that being said, I'd rather see Lerner bring back Marty. Oh the good ole days when we beat Pi*sturd like a red headed step-child

December 26, 2008  06:39 PM ET

Cowher was merely a part of the most storied franchse in the NFL. I wish him well but I believe he will find it hard to instill the "Steeler Mindset" into a new franchise. It is a mindset that starts at the top and runs throughout the organization. Much like many of the great linebackers that have left via free agency, Cowher may find it extremely hard to replicate what he had in Pittsburgh.

December 26, 2008  11:21 PM ET

I've been a Steeler fan all my adult life, since the days of Mean Joe, Rocky, Franko, Swan, so you get my drift, we have had great coaches and I wish them all well, it would look a little different, but it is and business, and the family set the guidelines for the organization, and I feel he would be hard pressed to do what he accomplished in Pittsburgh, and he is a family man and deserves to make a living at what he knows, so with that whatever he choices is his business. GO STEELERS

December 27, 2008  06:02 PM ET

It'll hurt a lot. He is a legend in Pittsburgh, and would continue to have love and support from steeler fans if he signed anywhere but cleveland. His decision of course, but my fandom for Cower will be affected if he leads the Browns.

December 28, 2008  06:48 PM ET

Maybe then and only then would the Browns have a chance to beat the Steelers. Don't think he will do it. It would definitely be a hit to his legacy. He is a class act and will do what is best for him and his family. Football, although a great sport, is just that.... a sport. Over-paid players who don't have to worry about putting food on their familie's table or paying rent/mortgage. In these economic times, where he decides to coach just doesn't seem very important.

i think bill would become PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER 1 in the 'burgh because the man grew up in crafton and crafted his hall-of-fame career with pittsburgh for 15 seasons, my goodness the whole city would trun on him ME INCLUDED, it would be such a huge betrayal. i dont care if he has ties to the browns as a player or whatever, he became famous with the best team in football the PITTSBURGH STEELERS

January 8, 2009  05:47 PM ET

Coach Cower was not the great coach that Pittsburghers, as I am, think he was or is. With the talent of players surrounding him, 1 and 1 in two Super Bowls just isn't good enough! How many times did the Steelers make it to the AFC championship to fall short because of Coach Cower's poor use of time outs or indecision play calling? An excellent coach, maybe! Coach Knoll was a great coach, because, he knew how to get it done, how to finish a game! So if Coach Cower ever went to an organization, such as the Cleveland Browns, I don't see him being as successful as he was in Pittsburgh. You make the judgement!

January 11, 2009  11:22 PM ET

it would be tough having to root against the chin, but hes already turned down the browns offer because he didnt want to be a rival against pittsburgh. but, if he does i wont feel sorry to kick his butt

January 11, 2009  11:24 PM ET

it would be really strange having to pull against the chin, but if it ever happens, so be it, my loyalty lies with the steelers no matter who they play against

January 12, 2009  07:05 AM ET

I would be hurt, but not as much as if it was Dick LeBeau.

January 12, 2009  07:21 AM ET

It would be hard if it was Dick LeBeau.

it would be outrageous to see cower coaching pittsburgh..... i like mike tomlin and how he is doing this year, but there is a huge rivalry between pittsburgh and cleveland... i think that if he went to coach for them it would be a slap in the face to our black and gold. he left them because he wanted to retire.... if you come out of retirement go to a different team. GO PITTSBURGH.... WE FANS LOVE YOU!

January 12, 2009  01:01 PM ET

it would be outrageous to have him coach cleveland..... i love what mike tomlin does with them but, cower made them one of the most loved football teams. with the rivalry with cleveland it would be like a slap in the face to our black and gold. he left the team to retire... you wanna come out of retirement then atleast go to a different team then the terrible dawgs. we love you pittsburgh!!!!

Despite being a big Steelers fan, I have NOT impressed with Mr. Cowher. He won one superbowl and ONLY one. He lost so many Championship games in Pittsburgh. I am not saying that Mr. Tomlin is a better coach, but I think he has done more with less - so far. Let us see how things are in 3 weeks...

agree. cowher did his time with pittsburgh. he played in cleveland but i think he has more respect for the steelers organization to not go to the browns. i dont see it happening.

Cowher won us a superbowl and put together many a winning team. He can go about his business and do whatever he likes. I don't think he'll come back and coach any time soon, but if he does and it happens to be Cleveland, I won't hold it against him. Cowher was a class act and he has plenty of leeway from me. I feel like he's earned it.
