I don't really see it. Shields takedowns are weak while GSP have pretty good takedown defense. Obviously Jake "Pillow Fists" Shields will get destroyed in the standup. GSP only loses this fight if he makes some big mistakes.
I think it will be a very boreing fight. It will be alot of man humping.
I think Randy wins by decision by controlling the fight and holding Machida against the cage just like he did Vera.
And I never really get too worked up for a janitor fight...
It will be a better fight than most think in my opinion. Jake has no illusions like Kos did that he can sprawl and brawl and get a KO. He know that for him to win this fight, he needs to take GSP down over and over and probably get a finish.
It is hard to remember because of the striking, but what few wrestling exchanges there were in in GSP vs Kos II, Josh won most of them. He had two good takedowns, and he sprawled several of GSP's.
Jake knows he has to shoot in this fight, and even though he will have to overextend himself for takedowns there is nobody better at finishing a weak shot and ending up on top than he is. And his top control and submission game is far better than anyone that GSP has fought recently.
I'm not saying that Jake wins, I'm just saying I think it is a far better fight than most think.
I really think this wi be the toughest fight gsp has had in a while, but he will win. I too think randy gets an upset victory by dirty boxing to a decision (I hope so since I put a little money on him with those great odds). Aldo should have a good fight too and a dominate win.

I had a bet with Jim on this fight. Looks like that bet is no longer valid.

I agree, I didnt even realize GSP reach is 76 inches and Jake is 72. Has Jake ever faced someone like GSP?

I want to say yes but Jakes last fight against Mark looked sloppy and out cardio. It was a close fight that he won, with GSP you come with it or youll get smashed.

Who had who?

I had Randy @ 2.5 to 1 odds...I won $50 with a Randy upset...Jim won $20 with a Machida win.

Jakes last fight was his first at 170 in a while and the drop from 185 took a lot out of him is what I read. His cardio should be much better this time around. His cardio was always one of his strong points before that fight.
this is gonna be like watching gsp-kos all over again, gsp will keep it standing and pick him apart...maybe a 4th round tko
I dont think Randy can keep Machida against the cage, his background will probably prevent that from happening

Couture goes out with a win over Machida and rides off into the sunset.
What is amazing is that GSP has a 4 inch reach advantage over a taller opponent in Shields.

Randy likes to press the action while Machida likes to counter the action. Its def a interesting match up. I want Machida to win so it can set up a match up between him and Jon Jones.

I know, its crazy. Its like GSP has go go gadget arms.

This fight is going to show how well rounded GSP really is. We already know his ground game is insane and his stand up game has improved tremendously. Now that he is going up against someone who has insane ground game is going to answer a lot of questions between both fighters.

I hope that was the case if not Shields is in for a short long night.
I'm gonna say GSP takes this one. Hopefully we don't get 5 rounds of lay-n-pray. We as a MMA fan base need GSP to win in order to force Dana to give up the Silva vs GSP fight. He is avoiding this fight like the plague.
It's time he gives into the fans.
I don't think Aldo will "steamroll" Hominick at all, actually. I think that will be the FOTN.
GSP-Shields will end like all of GSP's "biggest challenges to date" 5 shutout rounds of boring, yet extremely effective ground and pound.
Couture-Machida has a chance to be very, very boring. A Karate fighter vs. an old fighter that has basically turned into a dirty boxer at this point of his career. I see a lot of clinch avoiding by Machida, lots of chasing by Couture, and eventually Machida winning with a counter strike, ref stoppage.
