Well the big draft day is upon us but with the looming CBA talks and possible 2011 season hanging in the balance it sorta overshadows the excitement I usually have for the draft. I'm on the fence this season as their is several holes the Bears need to fill and I think they may trade down if they player they covet is not on the board when they pick so I'm predicting an uneventful first day draft but we shall see. I seen Mayocks final mock draft has the Bears taking "Jonathan Baldwin, W.R. from Pitt. he is listed at 6-5, 225 and some draft bios compare him to Brandon Marshall. Scouting report at link below;

I see the reasoning, but don't we have more pressing needs on both the offensive and defensive lines? Wouldn't it make more sense to get the linemen we need this year and then get the wr next year? I hope not, but we will probably not have such a low pick next year. Again, I don't know who would be the best choice a wr this year or next year, because I don't know who will be available next year. But if I'm making the choice I protect Cutler first and get by with the wrs we have untill next year. There again maybe someone might suprise us too? Fantuz could really suprise and Aromashodu is still on the team. We have options, it's just to me #1 is PROTECT JAY!!! Go BEARS, Have a great draft.

Is anyone besides me shocked to see Minnesota pick QB Christian Ponder from Florida St. with the #12 pick??? I didn't even think he was in the top 5 QBs was he????

The Lions just took Nick Fairly DT from Auburn. Wow, NO ONE is going to run on them!!! It's the Williams "brothers" all over again. Paired with Suh look out NFL the NFC North is going to send 3 teams to the playoffs for quite a few years now!!! And that's not even counting Minnesota!!!

One thing is for certain, the Lions aren't going to be anyone's patsey any more. Now with a DL to go along with their Offense.

I have to agree the Lions defensive line just went up another notch and makes a perfect paring with Suh, a good pick for the Lions and their fans and just put a lump in NFC North Q.B's throats.

The Bears just drafted my favorite choice, Gabe Carimi OT Wisconsin. This solidifies our OL tremendously. It also lets us leave Webb at RT where he did a great job for a 7th round rookie. It also allows us to put Williams where ever he can fit in and fits in. Meaning LG or RG. We can go after the best OG (I prefer Carl Nicks from the Saints ) in free agency. This only leaves C where Kreutz although getting very old is still doing an acceptable job. In a word GREAT and we will have a good if not very good OL in 2011. FINALLY we have an ol that we can play BEAR football with and control the ball. Now time to get the best DT in the 2nd round and I wouldn't be suprised (Since they almost did in the 1st round.) to trade up if necissary to get an impact man. After that, WR, CB, and LB in that order are what I think needs to be drafted. GO BEARS you got the STEAL of the draft in my book. It should make it almost probable that we make the playoffs AGAIN in 2011/2012.

The Packers just solidified what was considered a very weak line in just two drafts by adding LT Derek Sherrod of Miss. St. With the pick of Bryan Bulaga RT last year, their OL is set now for many years to come. Expletive Deleted!!! Not what Bear fans want to be between their DL and Rodgers who given time can carve up any Defense. But to me it just solidifies what I said that 3 NFC North teams will make the Playoffs in 2011/2012. But with the addition of an OL in Chicago the Bears will be able to run the ball on anyone opening up Cutler to do a little carving up of Defenses of his own!! Go BEARS!!!

Carimi is more of a RT, I can't help but think either Webb or Williams will be the LT and Carimi should go to the RT spot. Williams played LG last year with Omiyale at LT but I believe that was more because Omiyale can't play the guard position and Williams could. The O-Line will defiantly look different if there is a 2011 season, now it's up to Tice to put the O-Lines puzzle pieces together, one thing for sure is they are getting younger finally and hopefully can protect the Q.B. a little better than last season.

GSH1 you have my favorite avatar of all I've ever seen. I think that Tice will make the right choices and coach whoever up to play where ever he sees fit. After last year I trust his judgment completely. Especially, if we can add a free agent and maybe another draft choice on the OL yet. (I personally hope for Wisniewski and Carl Nicks.) Then I think, we will have at the start of the season, an OL with the best potential that Chicago has had since the 85 Bears team. Many people have forgotten, but that OL's run blocking was the main reason that the 85 Bears even had an offense. We could run on anyone, anytime, anywhere!!! Plus when we played a team that played the 3/4 defense, (Yea I'm talking about you GB.) they actually drooled with anticipation. I remember the write ups in the media from way back then. (Sorry I'm dating myself.) They out and out said, "So and so plays a 3/4 so we KNOW they can't stop us from running on them!!!" With a running game that dominates like that we can really take advantage of Jay Cutler's play action abilities. It also would make it easier for us to wait another year to get an impact #1 WR. If it doesn't out and out make one unnecissary. There again with an ol giving Jay the time to throw we could just find one on our team too. Knox almost had 1,000 yards last year and most people say that anyone who gains 1,000 yards recieving, IS a #1 reciever.

Gabe Carimi is a highly-regarded prospect that is talented and plays with a mean streak. However, he may not be a true left tackle in the NFL which could ultimately hurt his overall stock. In all likelihood, he will be drafted as a right tackle with the potential to move to the left side later in his career.

His pass protection is where he will have some issues in the NFL. He was able to eat up power rushers, but speed guys will give him trouble. Again with Clayborn and Hayward he was able to protect well against Heyward who is more of a power guy, but had trouble against the more athletic Hawkeye.
Right tackle should be a good home for the Outland Trophy winner. Left ends are typically the run stuffers and are not as athletic as the more highly paid right side. Because of the Badger run first offense, Carimi will need to develop his pass protection skills to be an elite offensive lineman. That being said teams at the bottom of the first round would love to grab the big senior.

Bottom Line on Gabe Carimi:
A four-year starter at left tackle, Gabe Carimi has a ton of experience protecting his quarterback's blind side. However, he lacks overall athletic ability and would struggle against speed rushers in the NFL. Putting him on the left side at the next level would probably be a mistake. He looks like a natural, though, at right tackle, and that's probably how he will be viewed by scouts.

Every draft profile I've read on Carimi said he projects to RT. Tice will evaluate and he will play where Tice feels gives the Bears the best chance to keep the Q.B. upright.

So far so good though things are looking up and I like the Carimi pick.

They also grabbed Andy Fantuz, a prospect W.R. from the Canadian league, 6-4, 220 could be a gem W.R. led the CFL in 2010 with 1,380 yards on 87 catches to go with six touchdowns.

I read something a few weeks ago that said Mike Tice wanted his line to look like this...

LT - Webb
LG - Williams
C - Kruetz
RG - Omiyale
RT - Carimi (Draft Pick)

They got the pick Tice coveted, and Lovie says they will get two linemen in free agency.
I see them go after Greg Little from UNC WR (3rd Round)...they compare him to Brandon Marshall.
I could also see them go after DT Kenrick Ellis from Hampton Univerity at 6-5 346 this is what they need in the middle, and as GSH 1 says they can always use a corner, so the Aaron Rodgers has a rougher time, than he did against Tim Jennings.

I can also see a center drafted in the later rounds, so that he can be groomed.

Webb over Carimi at LT? I thought the Bears wanted Carimi at LT.
