Did the Cowboys help themselves in the first three rounds? Opinions please!

Carter and Murray will add team speed.

The jury for me is still out on the tackle they took. They got Tony some help with a check down player. He is Jerry's kind of guy. But we'll see.

Looks like a good draft but we won;t know for sure for atleast 3 years.

It looks like an okay draft but nothing special.

The Cowboy's really miss Jeff Ireland. I can see them drafting the tackle from USC but then RB from Oaklahoma when you need a saftey and a DT and LB and CB. Look at the recievers the Cowboy's have to cover within the division they really need to put pressure up the middle without having to bring Brookings every play. Drafting the RB didn't surprise me because I hear Barber is gone Tashard Choice is probably to me there best running back just by a hair over Jones.

Most of it is personal opinion ... I'm glad they addressed the issues with the OL, I'm not surprised by the LB pick although it's not a high priority in my eyes. What mystifies me is the selection of a RB with the 2nd pick ... a waste and Murray? ... even if Barber is gone, just not an area they needed to address ...

the biggest disappointment is the failure to address the defensive line ... this bunch put little pressure on opposing QBs without blitzing and their success with blitzing was limited ... you give any QB the kind of time to throw the way the Cowboys did, they will pick you apart and any defensive backfield is gonna' have trouble keeping coverage ... the lines are the heart, soul and core of any team ... w/o them, you are lost.

just mho ...

May 1, 2011  06:57 PM ET

I guess the plan is to address the Defense through Free Agency because I'm less than impressed with the choices on that side of the ball...

I do like Smith a lot and Murray could be a steal.

I hate the Cowboys, but Murray was a great selection. He will be unstoppable in the offense and a huge weapon in the receiving game. He's one of the most talented RB's in have ever seen.

And Jerry screws up another draft. If he was paying a GM and the GM picked like this Jerry would have fired him. Welcome to Raiders East. Where your owner is the GM. This on the field crappy performances will continue as long as Jerry is running the show. You will never see another SB winner as long as Jerry is making the picks. Maybe Steven will be better in 5-10 years when Jerry retires.

Okay, I know that Jerry has been less than stellar but I'm going to trust that he did all the right things this time. I don't think Jones is going to sell this team anytime in the near future.

Yes, he's been less than stellar, but he has 20 plus years "experience" being a GM. With that being said, you can have a pretty good team with some GOOD coaching. Hopefully, Garrett will provide that, but will Jerry want to "hog the spotlight" if this team does become prominent again? I don't think Garrett has the ego of Jimmy Johnson, so it might work.
We will certainly see, won't we?

I know how you feel, Mr Grinch, but it's inevitable that Jerry will be "put out to pasture". Will Stephen do any better? We can only hope.

At this point its my only possible hope. My hope is Jerry retires and Stephen realizes its too much of a job to run both GM and be the head of the cowboys business. He then hires the best possible GM he can get his hands on. But that isnt anywhere in the near future. Jerry is going to continue like this putting out crappy teams with changes in Head coaches\Assistant coaches. He loves the spotlight of being the hands on GM/Owner.

There aren't any good GM's available at this time. New England and Green Bay have great young personnel people that may eventually become available.

You're probably right. Even in "retirement", Jerry will probably still dictate things.

These young personnel will likely be ....old........by the time Jerry departs the premises. He'll live til he's 113

Crypt Keeper Jerry ... we will never be rid of him.
