MLB  > General MLB  > Posey Injury

The notion that the injury to Buster Posey could cause rule changes in baseball is absurd. I sincerely hope Torre laughs away any possibilities brought about by a clean play at the play that just happened to hurt Posey.

If this happened to a lesser-known catcher, then there would be no talk of a rule-change. That's my only problem with this situation. If rule changes were being brought up because of continuing problems with catchers being injured, that would be different...

Far as I know, nobody talked about the guy Pete Rose ran over in the All-Star game back in the 70's. I maybe wrong, but that guy never played again after that. And that was a All-Star game!!!

You're not wrong. But because he wasn't a star and was simply a good player, it didn't matter that his career was done.

Ray Fosse was never the same after that hit.

And yet they didn't ban collisions with catchers.

The only people calling for rule changes are people in the Giants organization, Giants fans, and Poseys agent. You don't have to worry about anything changing. It won't happen.

That was Ray Fosse, but he did play again... In fact, he played 42 more games in 1970 after that mid-season All Star collision and won the Gold Glove in both 1970 & 1971. Later, when Rose was imprisoned for tax evasion, he was sent for five months to the U.S. Penitentiary in Fosse's home town of Marion, Ill.!
