NFL  > General NFL  > Cowher a choker? Give me a break!
December 30, 2008, 05:03 PM
In 15 seasons, Cowher has a 149-90-1 record with a .623 winning percentage. The average finish of the Steelers over that span is 1.7. His teams won 9 division titles and 2 AFC Championships, along with SB 40. His overall playoff record is 12-9 and although his teams lost 4 AFC championship games, 2 of those losses were by a combined 7 points. The other 2 losses were by 7 (NE, 'O1) & 14 (NE '04). Both of those games were decided late in the 4th quarter. He had 9 seasons of 10+ wins, made the playoffs 10/15years and had 2 losing seasons (6-10, '99 & '03).
Regardless of statistics, Cowher was what Pittsburgh is all about: hard-nosed, intense, aggressive and a blue-collar type of coach. We are lucky to have had 2 great coaches since the late '60's (Noll & Cowher) and blessed to have a third in Coach Tomlin.
I am sick and tired of hearing that Cowher was overrated and choked in the playoffs. His numbers speak for themselves...stop the bashing and the jealousy that your team is in search of a head coach every 2-3 years! Get an owner like the Rooney's, the blueprint that Steelers wrote and maybe you can enjoy a hard-nosed, successful football team that the great fans of the Steelers get to enjoy EVERY YEAR!
