It will be great and Stephen Jackson will have a 1500 yard season if Shanahan land there.
All the great coaches available; Shanahan, Cowher, Billick, Fassel, etc. and the Rams are interviewing a Green Bay assistant. It's Linehan all over again for the cheapest franchise on earth.

They are trying to sell the team so it only makes sense to not get strapped down to a big contract, the new owners will want to get their own overpriced coach.
They couldn't pay Shanahan enough to go to St. Louis. He's going to wait for a job that he knows he can win in.
If an NFL coach doesn't make it the first time, I think they should look for another line of work. I'm tired of all people who think being a FAILED head coach is somehow a qualification for being a head coach elsewhere. Let's face it, my Grandmother could be an unsuccessful head coach in the NFL -- you know -- poor leadership, bad calls, dumb game plans, sticking with the wrong players, etc. No, the next head coach should be a success from somewhere -- not another NFL retread like Shanahan, Martz, Fasell, Billick and the rest.

All of the coaches listed here have coached a team to the superbowl. I would qualify that as successful
In my opinion, Marty S, Brian B, and Mike S would great HCs for our Rams. Cowher is out of our league financially, but will the management fork out the money? Regardles of who we bring in, we need to get rid of Al Saunders. His play calling was horendous and predictable. Heck when Mike Martz was here defenses were always guessing on how to defend our offense. I am not saying bring M & M back, I'm just saying bring a OC who's play calling is not predictable.

Yeah I guess you are right. If a coach doesn't win a superbowl with his first team he should get out of the way and let new blood in.....Perhaps Vermeil was just a fluke
Scott
No, a head coach doesn't need to win a Superbowl with his first team, but he should demonstrate that he's a winner worth retaining -- and not someone whose been released by multiple teams (see Martz, Mike). And like everything else, the main qualifying question should be "what have you done LATELY?" There are simply too many competent coaches in the college ranks -- and even in the Canadian League -- who should be given a chance over the constantly hanging-around group of men who've proved they can't run a football team in the NFL.
When you get somebody as HC that's actually won a Super Bowl like Shanahan, Cowher, Vermeil, Billick, etc. it automatically commands the respect of the players and of opposing teams. The players know you don't win championships with deadwood onboard, so they either give their best effort or get cut. And, the competition is always thinking in the back of their minds; "this guy knows how to win" which don't help their confidence. How many teams are really worried about facing a Scott Linehan or Jim Haslett (1 career playoff win) or some newbie coordinator that just got promoted because the hiring team is cheap? Plus, a veteran Super Bowl champ coach will bring in top notch assistants too. And they won't tolerate Incognito type outbursts or repeated mistakes like "Mr. False Start"; Alex Barron. A tough "Vince Lombardi" type would also get rid of the perennially injured players by cutting or trading them. Alas, the Sheep will probably end up with some obscure coordinator from a losing team. Heard that one before?
I will put my trust in Billy for now cause I like what he has been saying but I would really like to get a HC with a defensive back ground. I know are best years were built around offense but I am so tired of seeing our defense get gutted every week. Ryan or Schwartz are my two choices.
I liked Chuck Knox. He could always win 10-12 games during the regular season. But he could NEVER win more than one playoff game per season. The Rams usually exited in the divisonal playoff to Dallas or Minnesota. That don't cut it.
I totally agree with edjr I can live with a team that wins 10-12 games during the regular season year after year at least they make the playoffs. 1 win in the playoffs I'll take that too. Who knows they may get lucky and go all the way and win it all. I am just tired of the losing we as Rams fans have endured the last 3 to 4 years. It's not so much that they have lost consistantly, but how they have lost. I as a Rams fan since I was 4 years old and now 42 watched the Rams go through losing seasons in the past, but at least those teams never gave up. They fought until the last whistle and were competative. Most important our QB's were tough, took hits and got up held thier heads up and continued with determination to finsh the game competatively. Bring in a moble QB such as Vince Young, Mike Vick? or Donavan Mcnabb.
How about Shannahan as HC and Martz to come back as OC? That would bring back an explosive O. Shannahan would bring his talent with the running game and help Steven Jackson inthe running game and Martz would air it out again (think if they brought back Warner!!) Shannahan would force the run game on Martz to balence things out. Bring in Greg Williams to coach the D. Even if the owners were trying to sell, what owners in their right mind would not want thoes 3 as coaches?? Shannahan wouldnt even be expensive due to the Broncos still paying him lots of money for the next few years.
