NFL  > General NFL  > Will the loss of NFL games this year really change the fan's love for the game?
June 3, 2011, 11:24 PM
I am die hard NFL. Period. End of story. However, if we get anything less than an entire season of football I would be nothing less than bitter. No matter what, a deal will get done and NFL football will be business as usual so this does not kill it for me as a fan. I am shocked tor ead how many fan's say if there is a loss of games then they will not watch the NFL as much or at all. Love it or hate it, it is what it is. We are all slaves to the NFL and we will all love the NFL when it comes back to us.

I'm sure the NFL is glad to hear there are people like you in the world. The networks along with Pavlov knew that some day you would be the end result of their grand experiment on mankind. You say you are a fan and a slave of a product ( the NFL ) yet not once do you say what it is about the product that pleases you, do you also eat and drink and buy the products prescribed for you by the advertisements?. Do you always include others in what are only your feelings? WE are not all slaves, YOU are. I talked to about 15 people today about FANS BOYCOTTING THE 2011 football season if something is not settled soon, it all started when some guy asked my friend while we were having pizza for lunch if he would join other people that have already decided they have had enough of the NFL. If there is no NFL season there will be plenty of people hurt financially by that decision, Owners, Players, Sports magazines and shows, Gambling interests, but the general public will find other interests and not be hurt financially from its absence. Direct TV announced they will be refunding the money people would have paid for watching the NFL.

I've been a lifelong NFL fan. But, if it really came down to it, I'd be more than happy to substitute college football in it's place.

I cancelled my NFL channel in favor of the Competitive knitting channel. The team from St Louis have a Captain that's a whizz with her needles, but the Boston team can knit patterns like nobody's buisness. Unfortunatly it looks like the Pheonix Yarn Balls will take the trophy this year for their 6000 foot scarf that knitted off the back of live sheep!!

I've watched the NFL for over 40 years, especially the Cowboys. But, there's been times in my life, such as doing Navy duty and being overseas, where it wasn't available to me. I survived it. Football is not life and death, but during the Cold War, that possibility always existed. I used to see Soviets with their binoculars, eyeballing our operations (submarines) all the time.
That was REAL LIFE. Football is entertainment.

Good points, Narrator. I can take it when the Cowboys lose.........I just go find something else to do, and have many other interests as well. If the NFL doesn't play this year, so be it.There's plenty of other entertainment on Dish Network.

I'm in a surly mood whenever the Cowboys lose. Just ask my fiancee.

I made it through the 1987 NFL strike - I'll make it through the 2011 NFL lockout.
But Roger Goodell and the owners are sadly mistaken if they think it doesn't take a toll on the fans.
In a conference call between Goodell and some Seahawks season ticket holders this week, most of what Goodell had to say was the standard stuff. However there was one thing that made me shake my head in disgust at how stupid he and the owners must think the fans are - In a statement that sounded 'canned', Goodell told one season ticket holder that "the lockout instigated by the league was also for the good of the fans, as well." --- WHAT?
He said that the NFL must roll back overall costs, ie; payments to the players, so that ticket prices could be reined in.
I am INCENSED that the arrogant owners and their puppet Goodell, would actually think we are stupid enough to believe that ticket prices will ever go down or they will never go up due to this lockout! That the lockout is really "for the good of the fans." -- Chhh ..
The one thing I do know, is that we are inadvertantly related to the ever-increasing expense of the NFL experience and that because of the lack of being able to organize millions of NFL fans accross the country, that we fans will continue to be the losers in all this as well as other pro sports labor stoppages.
But yeah - when it returns, I'll still watch it and that's exactly what the owners are counting on.
The difference between before the lockout and after .... Will I ever buy any merchandise with the NFL logo on it?
Not on your life.

Hail Football

The money that the NFL makes on ticket sales is a drop in the bucket of the total revenue, compared to TV and merchandizing. If each team was solely dependent on ticket sales as their only source of revenue they would only be able to meet about half the cost of the teams salary. Will your boycott involve all the foods in your grocery store that put the NFL logo on their packaging? I buy products that are endorsed to me by friends or my trial and error testing, not because some abstract organization or player was able to convince the manufacturer that sales would increase with their face on the product.

Okay - to put this in perspective ..... LOL
why do you give a fat rats **** who endorses what I buy?
Yes - the occasional screw up will happen and that juicy 16 oz. T-bone may be sporting a tiny NFL logo in the corner, (since 9 out of 10 NFL players eat steak) or my shaving cream may sport one at the the bottom of the lable I can miss (every male over the age of 17 shaves) shit happens.
But you're telling me, that if your friends said that turd sandwich tasted like chicken - that 'friendly' endorsement means it's okay for you to test (and saying you don't like chicken is a cop-out)
and I really have no control over the TV, since my cable company doesn't offer a box to check for 'No NFL' - However, I already refuse to pay for an extra sports package just for the NFL channel. Does THAT count?

It was a simple question; will you avoid buying everything with an NFL endorsement or logo on it? Its almost impossible to do. Just like saying you will not buy things made in China, almost impossible. I don't know who you are and don't care what products you buy, you were the one that mentioned that you would not buy anything with an NFL logo on it. If I had to chose what Joe Montana told me what was a good cereal and what my friend told me what was a good cereal, I take my friends advice over Montana's because I know my friend.

Ralph has found out that he can accomplish more as a lobbyist than he could as an elected official, to much bureaucracy

The loss of some games may change some fans perspective on the NFL and their purchasing habits,as it should. I think most reasonable people are fed up with this arguing over money, especially in this economy. Most of the people posting here are the hard core, and I believe most of them will forgive and forget eventually. the casual fans, those on the fringe will be less forgiving, and those are the ones the NFL and players should worry about.
