NCAAF  > Arkansas Razorbacks  > Tyler Wilson will do what Ryan Mallett never did - win a BCS bowl.
June 20, 2011, 10:10 AM
Tyler Wilson will lead Arkansas to a BCS bowl and win it. In 2010-2011, it too a red hot Alabama, a top notch Cam Newton for Auburn, and a lucky Ohio State to keep Arkansas from beign elite. But it was Ryan Mallett's team. Tyler is a more talented passer even though he is not quite the physical freak that Mallett is. I believe Wilson has what it takes to help Arkansas win a BCS and even gives Arkansas a decent chance on winning the BCS title.

HOMER ALERT!

1. Mallett was not the only player lost from the 2010 team.
2. I agree that Mallett was not perfect, but he did have exp, something the new QB lacks.
3. LSU and Bama should both be better than they were in 2010.
4. ARK plays TAMU again.
5. Given 1-4 good luck at getting to any BCS bowl.

Would you be so kind as to provide me with the winning lottery numbers in the Texas lottery from now on?

June 20, 2011  01:36 PM ET

Arky's best chance (probably only chance) to get to a BCS bowl is to pull a quick switch to the Big East.

Good grief, this guy is good with the excuses, isn't he? His superior Hawgs just happen to have run into a buzzsaw Bama, then a team with just one player that beat them, and another that was just plain lucky. My goodness, if it weren't for those unbelievably unfortunate circumstances, the Hawgs had the 2010 crystal trophy in the bag.

Priceless.

Not just the BE. ARK would be preseason picked 2nd at worst in the B12, B10, ACC, and MWC as well. Probably 3rd in the P12 after Oregon and Stanford. The SEC West is just tough as he-- (esp if AU can find a QB and if MSU plays well).

'Bama will be better by replacing McElroy, Ingram, Dareus, and Julio? I'll believe it when I see it.

Pfft to all of it except maybe the MWC. However, winning the MWC doesn't guarantee a BCS game.

Well all the experts seem to think so, I happen to agree with them this year. Will have to wait and see.

OU is probably better. After that? Everyone is smoking the TAMU poll so far preseason, my bet is ARK beats them by at least 14-and that is the presumtive 2nd or 3rd place team, depending on how you place OkSU.

I know it's hard to expect a 5-win team to double to 10 wins the following year, but I don't see any reason Texas can't come all the way back this season. No team brought in more talent over the last 4 years and if Brown fails to correct last year's aberration, it won't be from a lack of effort. Biggest question mark for me is if the Defense's execution will drop off with the loss of Muschamp.

But even if Texas improves from 2010 (and they will) I am not sure they would beat ARK in 2011, at best it would be a toss-up unless the line and QB spots get dramatically better. Texas certainly has more talent, but will/can they play as a team and will they plug the right pieces into the right places?

That being said Texas could win 10 this year and still be a notch below ARK if the Razorbacks perform up to the standards they had last year.

Think BSU would take ARK. With all the new faces TCU would be a slight dog and ARK would be favored over the rest. Not real different than the ACC-FSU would be favored and the rest would be slight or heavy dogs vs ARK IMHO.

OkState. Their "triplets" are returning on offense and they can hang with anyone. I'm not sure Ark could keep up with OkState's offense seeing as how they're replacing Mallett.

TAMU's QB has a year of game experience now ... and he'll actually practice the QB position in spring/summer ball!! Ags have a good starting cast but depth was/is their problem. Ark would probably win this one but not by 14. I don't give a rat's you-know-what about who Ark plays in the BSEC. That in itself doesn't make them inherently strong, and they are not 14 point favorites over anyone at this point - not with a rookie QB.

I sure don't see what suggests Arkansas can continue with last year's performance. They lost half their starters including an all-world QB and their recruiting over the past 4 seasons is nothing special. To me Arky peaked last year and it's back to the middle of the pack for this season. They would be above average in the B10, B12, PAC, and ACC, but not contenders for conference champs.

You said it best in quote #2. BTW, if playing TAMU is an impediment to Arky reaching a BCS bowl, how is it the Hogs would be a 2 TD favorite?

Yah, but ARK is not playing in a vacuum. Every team loses some talent year to year. For quote #2 I was giving TAMU about a 30% shot at beating ARK, a decent speedbump but not near the brick wall that LSU and Bama will be.

I just don't think Mallett was all that great of a QB-we will see this year but my money is that ARK is like Houston or TT under Leach-its a system that generates great numbers regardless of the triggerpuller, although a great QB is still a tremendous asset. My bet is whomever ends up at QB will have great numbers by the close of the year.
