McClellan giveth and the bullpen giveth away.

Definitely. Horrible performance in the 8th last night.

Trevor Miller - faces 3 guys, gets one of them out. Gives up a hit and a walk to the other two

Jason Motte - for some reason brought in to face Ryan Howard, then hits the only two batters he faces

Brian Tallet - gets one guy out and a hit to the other

Miguel Batista - faces 3 hitters. Walks two of them and gives up a hit to the other.

So, after McClellan throws a great game and matches Doc inning for inning......these four guys come in and face ten hitters and get exactly two of them out.

Frustrating.............

Miguel Batista's last four games:

2 2/3 innings pitched

6 hits

9 earned runs

4 walks

1 strikeout

The bullpen is pathetic, to be sure!

We have got to come up with a reliever that can run for two or more innings and hold it together, and at least one left hander that has smething left to bring to the mound if the Cards plan to make it to the post season.

100% agree. This is not a playoff-caliber bullpen.

Batista has worn out his welcome with a lot of Cards fans. I was never a fan of this signing in the first place. He could the grandpa of some of the guys on the team. Let him go! Boggs is a guy who can go 2+ innings if needed. He's got the make up and the stuff to make that happen. I like Tallet, I just think he's not used enough to keep him sharp. Franklin has shown signs of getting it back together (however, I'm not holding my breath). TLR has overmanaged his bullpen all season. Case and point, Sanchez. He used him too much, and now he's hurt. I think right now, Boggs and Salas are the 2 guys that are pretty much a given. Everyone else is a toss up as to what they are going to bring to the mound each night they are called upon. There has to be some middle relief out there to trade for. Shoot, isn't Kevin Milwood still available? Put him into the rotation, and move KMac back to the bullpen. Much like everyone on this panel, I'm getting sick and tired of watching the starters pitch a hell of a game, only for the bullpen to come up in one inning, and blow it.

Isn't this the part where they call in Charley Sheen to pitch?

Word around the campfire is that Miguel Batista was given his outright release today. Thank Jesus something has started to happen.

Well thats a start. they will have to cut deeper though if they want to fix this bullpen. hopefully Lynn will be able to handle middle relief. now we need a lefty, like last mounth.

I like Lynn but I agree they need some lefties in the bullpen
