Let me get the opinions of the class here. What, if any moves can be made that will not add a ton of money to the payroll, but would improve this team to make a run for October. With 3 games separating us from the Brewers, and Pittsburgh (yep...that Pittsburgh) just a game behind us in the standings, what can be done to improve this club? Getting Freese back will be a little bit of a boost, but we need more.

What are the chances that the Cards get back in touch with their friends in San Diego, and pull off a multi player deal (hopefully including Ludwick)?

I now open up the floor for comments.

You have the right location for a trade with San Diego, but it's Bell that they need to go after. Bell could be the very much needed anchor in the bullpen that we need to take some of the load off of the starting rotation.

1. Try to put together a package to get Bell. Might take trading a draft pick plus one or two of the young players, probably Criag or Jay.

2. Add a starting pitcher. The starting fivesome has been solid, but far from spectacular lately. Depth would be good as I can't imagine this rotation is going to stay healthy the rest of the way 100%

3. The offense should be fine. Freese being back will help, and they should be able to survive until AP comes back. Not sure why they seem so enamored with Barlett, as I don't see him as a major upgrade to what they have now.

4. Release Ryan Franklin. His contract is up at the end of the year and he adds nothing.

Franklin is Gone

I hope you aren't too heart-broken, SGB.

Franklin had a nice, unexpected run as the Cardinal closer and has been pretty solid throughout until this year. His contract is up at the end of the year, and there is no way you could seriously entertain bringing him back in 2012, so he was just a liability while still on the roster.

Good luck to him......but it was past time to make this move.

Are you kidding? I'm doing the happy dance!! LOL My only question is what took them so long?????????

I agree with everything else you said!

I didn't realize he is 38. Hard way to go out, but he's got the summer off, and could get picked up.

Bullpen still needs help, my two cents is they'll make a move for another pitcher.

I like the idea I read somewhere of adding a starter and moving Kyle McLellan to the bullpen again.

After watching K-Mac lately, I think he could be running out of gas. I'd like to see a starting pitcher added and move K-Mac to the 'pen. He's more effective at getting out left handed hitters than any of our bullpen leftys.......so if Mozeliak isn't going to get a lefty for the 'pen, they should utilize McClellan there.
