Kyle Petty's comments on TNT were an example of the bias that occurs in many of the NASCAR broadcasts.


The thing that I noticed the most about the sport (actually I wrote an article about it years ago) is that there is a disconnect between a new fan and the broadcast crews, they always talk about their buddies and who's father they raced back in the days.

As a viewing fan of just about every sport on TV I can tell you without reservation that NASCAR is the only sport where this happens in a consistent basis.

Just my opinion.

All good, fair enough, but I did get the feeling I was intruding, there is a kind of old boys network to the broadcast, is like "their thing"

Again, fair enough.

On lap No. 38 Montoya and Kyle Busch were fighting for position, how surprising ha, those drivers are like two peas in a pod, we can agree on that, Montoya squeezed Kyle onto the dirt, Kyle came right back , no harm done, is over lets move on.

A few hundred feet behind Kyle B. and Juan, Tony Stewart hits Vickers and punts him, Kyle Petty and friends jumped on Montoya's case like a monkey on a banana tree , Montoya's fault of course, something JPM fans have been putting up with since he came to NASCAR.

After further review you could "clearly see" that Tony Stewart had a clear vision as to where Vickers was and just tried to move him, "just racing, just racing" isn't that what we always hear from those NASCAR experts in the media.

You know the drill, Rubbing is racing, trading paint, just a little tap, boys will be boys, you know what I'm saying wink, wink, I didn't want to hit you, if you're a fan you know what I'm talking about.

Even after they ran the replay a hundred time none of them acknowledge the fact that Juan's and K. Busch incident had nothing to do with the Tony vs. Vickers incident. NOTHING!

Let me just add further insult to injury, on lap 44 or 45, No.2 Big K. punted No.43, nothing was said, no drivers got ripped by the TNT crew, a few seconds later Logano bounced Kenseth , again nothing said, no scolding of Logano, actually Kyle Petty said , and I quote "I'm not defending Joey ....." but of course he did.

How about when Logano "ONCE AGAIN" did the aggressive driving thing, you know that stuff the bum Montoya does, Joey punted R. Gordon on purpose, yet the TNT broadcaster turned a blind eye once again.

NASCAR justice I guess.

In NASCAR one thing has become strikingly clear to me:

RUBBING IS RACING, "BUT" IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHO IS DOING THE RUBBING.

Fair enough, it is what it is, but if NASCAR is serious about attracting younger and a more diverse audience they may want to take a closer look at this.

If an old man like me, sitting in front of a computer in my socks and underwear has noticed how obvious the bias of the broadcast is, I wonder what a younger and more educated fan is thinking as they tune in for the first time to see a NASCAR race.

I want you folks to understand this, criticizing a driver is a legitimate part of a commentators job, but picking and choosing who you criticize or who you protect when the situations are similar is unacceptable.

As a fan I found the bias on the TNT broadcast offensive, but that's just me, I'm not the audience who they're catering to.

Seriously, if NASCAR just plans to broadcast to the same audience for the next 30 years then all is well, but if they want to replenish their audience they better take a look at this or at least take a listen to the NBA, NFL and MLB broadcasts.

As always I'm just a fan with an opinion and from what I understand everybody has one and I thank God for that .
