NFL  > Chicago Bears  > "Cutting down Cutler", it's the "IN" thing.
July 5, 2011, 10:49 AM
Writers write what they think people want to read. Right now the Cutler haters are outnumbering his supporters. So it's just a logical reaction of the press. The Bears are one (If not the) most hated teams in the NFL. Other than Jim McMahon since Sid Luckman, the Bears really haven't had a quality QB. Sure we had short stints from Jim Harbaugh and Eric Kramer, but other than them we haven't had ANY one who really could run an offense effectively. Now we have a QB who went to the ProBowl a year before he departed Denver under more than opportune circumstances. Thus now we have the Bear haters, (Who hope the Bears NEVER get an effective QB or Offense.) joining up with the Denver fans who are still upset that Jay demanded a trade from their prestigious team. Why anyone would want to leave the Bronco's borders on sacrilige to these faithful fans. BUT the fact remains Bear fans, Cutler did go to the ProBowl. Period!! No one can dispute that fact and that's alot more than any other Bear QB has done in a LONG time. Now looking at the big picture of the Bears Offense I think it's obvious what was wrong with them last year and what needs to happen to right this wrong and make the Bears an "Offense to contend with" with Super Bowl asperations. Simply they need to jell!!! Oh you can say the O-line, recievers, and Jay, but the players ARE in the NFL and no one would be dissing them if they were more effective at scoring and moving the ball. This all comes down to Offensive effeciency. We have had ONE of the two and 1/2 years that ex Ram players said it took them to "get" Mike Martz's system. Both of whom are probably going to make the Hall of Fame. I'm sure people in St.Louis were doubting them before they got "it" and became effective too. Now I expect to see the Bears Offense to play better this year, and be almost unstoppable next year. Meanwhile we will be adding some more players who will also improve their play. Until then, expect the haters to hate, and the doubters to doubt. So be patient Bear fans and don't believe all the haters who just have nothing else to do but write negative things that will evaporate in the next 18 months once the players show that they can move the ball and score. Go BEARS!!!

Cutler reminds me of Brett Favre with his gunslinger approach to football but Favre was much more durable and successful. There is still time for Cutler to fulfill his great promise but he had better start to show it.

Cutler went to the probowl? Put him in the Hall of Fame.

But seriously the Bears won;t have an unstoppable offense next year.

And people diss the offense because it doesn;t move the ball well or score that much is natural. Just like when a defense gives up 30 points a game or teams move easy on them people will diss them. Why? Because they aren;t doing their job. Their job is to score and when they aren;t doing that people will bash them.

Cutler isn't half bad, but he's got to lead the offense. I know all the teammates are saying the right things - just like they did for Rex and Kyle before him - but he's got to grab 'em by the short hairs and drag them to excellence in order to get over the hump. The easy way out is to blame the system, the line, the coaches, etc. It comes down to him deciding that nothing excuses bad play and leading.

THinking about it Bronco fans and Bear haters hate Jay Cutler (but I would say they love him) but wouldn;t that mean that Bronco, Chiefs, and Chargers fans love Jay for what he has done to the Broncos? So that should even out the Bear haters and Bear lovers.

Flashbacks, if Lovie gets fired in the next couple of years you get my vote to replace him. (Just kidding.) But what you said is EXACTLY right a winning team really needs it's leader to act like a leader. However I don't think you went far enough. The Bears have done their best with hell raiser coaches. Jack Pardee, George Hallas and of course "the coach", Mike Ditka. I understand that Lovie's style is simular to Dallas's greatest coach Tom Landry (Counting on his assistant coaches to be the motovational source.) I just think a hell raiser head coach gets more done on the field and out of his players. Look at the coach from up north, (whatever his name was Looserbardi or something like that. lol.) Don Shula, Bill Parcells, Chuck Noll, Bill Walsh, and even currently Bill Bilichick. (I think 16 Super Bowl victories added together.) All of them are motivational coaches who aren't afraid to let their players know that they messed up WHEN THEY DID!!! All of their players dread/ed coming to work the next day knowing what kind of chewing they are/were going to get. It motovates them not to make mistakes, when I think Lovie's style excuses them. If we ever get rid of Lovie, I want a fire and brimstone coach not a wimpy excuser!!! Go BEARS!!!

Bears fans may have developed a persecution complex. There is probably a great deal of Bear hate in the NFC North, but believe me, that pales in comparison to the national hate that the Cowboys and Patriots experience.

As a Bears fans Cutler is one of the most talented QB's in the league...I think he has to step up his leadership, and keep the turnovers down, to shutup the talking heads.

It was nice that he went to the Pro Bowl as a Bronco, but that is old history, he needs to do this as a Bear. I still think they robbed Denver, and John Elway said if he was in charge, that would not have happened.

It will all be mute point if they do not upgrade the talent at O-Line and WR's.

Keepin, just look around on this site and look at all the Cutler hate. It's disgusting and it's not just fromthe NFC north or Bronco fans. It's like I said, it seems to people that they think it's cool to persicute Jay. Granted he hasn't performed as well as we hope, but I think this and next year will be a very different story.

Don;t go to the NFC North blog on ESPN. Jay's nickname on there is Slap Nutz.

Here are the jokes we were saying about him:

Started with this one and got way worse-
"When he proposed to Kristin C., he got down on one knee, then left without explanation for Caleb Hanie to finish"

Then-
"The first time he was "wrestling naked in bed" with Kristen C he had to stop halfway through and let Hanie finish."

Followed by-
"don't forget that todd collins was good for a couple low balls and a pump fake or two"

Next-
"I think Cutler might be g.@.y. He just sat there riding the pine and watched. Didn't seem like wanted to go back in. Didn;t even show an emotion or effort to get back in the bed. "

Followed by-
"Urlacher suspiciously defended him in the post-game press conference...."

Then it just kinda ended. I will post the video that got Jay the nickname Slap Nutz.

They do the same with Romo. I just ignore it, or play along with it. Not much else you can do.

Well I'm sure that this is exactly what Donovan McNabb was telling him after the Washington game. Keep your chin up and ignore the idiots. Along with other things like I wish I played here in Chicago. Sad thing is I would love to see the Bears bring Donovan in for a backup but KNOW they won't.

Even an old McNabb is better than a young Cutler. McNabb also was quoted as having no interest in playing for the Bears.

Cutler is fine, it's Martz i am more concerned with. I don't think he will ever be satisfied being just a coordinator and thus i think he will continue to try to take his gimmicks too far and lead the Bears to trouble. Cutler is mobile, and yet the Bears hardly ever have him on the move: which one would think would help relive the pressure on what is the worst offensive line in football.

Jay just needs some consistency around him. He's had his coordinator switched almost yearly, and he needs some time to adjust. They have literally taken away everything comfortable from his game : big wrs that take advantage of his arm strength and a TE safety net: and put in place one of the most complex system with a group of young inexperienced receivers. It's easy to blame the QB, but this Bears fan at least doesn't.

July 6, 2011  06:54 PM ET

Cutler has the physical ability. I question his intangibles.

The herd mentality at its finest. There's always a little more room on the bandwagon.
