Soccer  > General Soccer  > Julie Foudy, an example why ex-jocks shouldn't do ........

Julie Foudy could be an example as to why ex-jocks shouldn't do commentary unless they understand the job.

Today's World cup game between USA vs. Brazil was a great game, EPIC is a fitting word to describe this match, shame that ESPN and the crew did not take it to that level .

I thought I was listening to a high school broadcast with the parents doing the commentary, it took away from a great game.

They became judge and jury rather than doing what broadcasters supposed to do, inform and give balance and fair opinions.

Bad calls happen all the time , in every sports, everyday, just watch a baseball, football or basketball game.

If we spend all game talking about the bad calls we would probably miss half the game, that is exactly what happened in this world cup telecast, they spend most of the game complaining about the calls, it was annoying.

Actually it reminded me of a parent in a little league game that spend the whole game complaining about a bad call against her son "IN THE FIRST INNING" and I was sitting right behind her, can you imagine having to listen to the her the whole game.

I can, it happened to me.

Shame that such a great game had to be diminished by broadcasters who let their emotions get the better part of them.

Oh well I guess is just progress, this is the new "it" in television.

As always this is a fans opinion and from what I understand everybody has one and I'm grateful for that.

Enough said.

Really? So they don't go on and on about botched calls during MLB or NFL playoffs?? You must have not had the audio on. And in soccer a major call like a few of these can be even more severe.

What I found disappointing was that after this game of games and the whole USA vs. Brazil storyline, etc. etc. not only was it not the lead story on the local news tonight, not only was it not the lead in sports tonight, but it didn't even get mentioned, as best as I could tell flipping around, on 3 of the 4 NYC stations tonight. Only ABC mentioned it, fairly briefly, during sports (probably only because they are tied to ESPN which is covering the games). Reminds me of when NBC had this huge storyline for the 2008 Olympics and chose to play up none of it and literally did not even mention the women's team a single time on NBC itself, until briefly after they had won the gold medal. Nothing about the big USA-Brazil rematch, nothing along the way, not a peep. And yet NBC sports chief was going on about how he jsut knew that ping pong would be the story that would captivate America at the games! hah.
I can't believe NBC got the OLympics again. They botched the winter games 1000x worse. We had the most stunning success and storylines in downhill skiing and they showed like 5 minutes clips of each race!
