MLB  > General MLB  > CANADA DISRESPECTED (AGAIN) AT THE 2011 MLB ALL-STAR GAME
July 12, 2011, 08:52 PM
It is an absolute shame how Major League Baseball chooses to blatanly disrespect Canada and Canadians at the MLB All-Star Game. I mean, we have the best player, Jose Bautista, playing for a Canadian team. As well, we have debatably the best catcher, Joey Votto. It is just pathetic to me how the MLB has no Canadian flag on the field, and the one in the rafters looks to be falling apart. As well, the national anthem being pretaped last year, and just an instrumental this year. Sorry, USA, it is an absolute joke. Shame on you, and even the players! Who else saw Cano and Ortiz laughing and chatting during the Canadian national anthem. No respect. I want to see what you Americans can possibly say to defend yourselves and the MLB. Once again, it is sad and, as a proud Canuck, I'd speak out if I were Votto: trash the MLB. I love baseball, but this is a discrace. Sorry.

There is no defense. You don't see this with the other cross-border sports. MLB needs to address this and do the right thing--and not just for games that are played on the Canadian side of the border.

Actually, I'm surprised they even play the Canadian national anthem in Toronto. Don't get me wrong, it's a great city, and I've really enjoyed my trips there, but those people want to be New Yorkers more than New Yorkers do.

Your rant would be more credible if you didn't think Joey Votto was a catcher.

Right? I was quite confused when I read that, at first I thought he was talking about the catcher for the Jays, but yea... he's a first baseman buddy.

I think he meant to say Votto at 1st and Russell Martin at catcher. But, regardless, at least the Canadian anthem got played, unlike the Asian and Latin countries.

Ortiz and Cano are not Americans.
