A readers poll in Golf Digest voted Jack Nicklaus the greatest golfer of the past 100 years. Tiger Woods was second with 16 per cent and the late Seve Ballesteros was third with 8 per cent.

I watched Nicklaus in his prime and agree with the readers poll but am surprised that Woods only received 16 per cent of the vote.

Major wins are huge but total wins matter too. Jack will forever be remembered as the best. Tiger will forever be remembered as "what could have been if he hadn't screwed up!"

Palmer should be ranked better than #10. Before he hit the scene, golf was a sport for the wealthy. The sport became hugely popular in the 60's among middle class people and the number of public courses grew dramatically. I feel Arnie should at least be in the top 5.
