Okay, I think it is time for Johnny Moz to step up and get this team the pieces it needs to stay in the race. There is a flatness to this team right now, as they have come out of the break losing 3 of 4.

Here's what I would like to see:

1) Get at least one lefthander for the bullpen that can get left-handed hitters out. Valdes doesn't look like he can get lefties out, so why is he here? Miller has been so-so all year. The bullpen desperately needs a top-flight situational lefty.

2) I'd like to see a starting pitcher added, and possibly move K-Mac back to the bullpen. Carpenter has been great lately, but it seems as though Westbrook, Lohse and McClellan have teetered between okay and mediocre over the last month or so. I think the rotation needs a shot in the arm.

That's it, in my opinion. The lineup is fine now that everyone is back and healthy.

I'm never one to be in favor of making a deadline trade just to make a trade, but the feeling I get of this team is that it needs one. They seem to be waiting for that shot of adrenaline that can come from a significant deal. Time to get busy, John.

Sorry, not sure why this posted twice.

I'm in agreement with both of these needs. However, I think bringing in a player like Heath Bell would strengthen the bullpen as well. Salas seems to be getting everyone out (Brandon Phillips excluded). I think Bell is just the type of guy this club needs. Someone who's a good team guy, and can keep the guys in the pen loose. And having a proven closer isn't bad either.

Don't get me wrong, I love what Salas has done at the back end of games for us since taking over the closers job, but I think he would be a great 8th inning guy setting up for Bell in the 9th, or vice versa. The Birds have some decent pieces that they could throw at the Fathers for Bell. This all being said is it feasible to rent a set up man/closer for 3 months only to have him sign elsewhere. We have another player to resign that might be worth locking down for a few more years. It's that Pujols fellow. Not sure if you guys and gals have heard of him, but I hear he's going to be pretty good.

I'll probably be booed out of the group but I'm not sure AP is a player we need to lose any sleep over. He has not impressed me this year, at all and yes, I know it's only this year but isn't it the norm for players to produce out their butt in a contract year? What's his excuse?

Is he injured? Does he have CONTRACT on his mind instead of the game? Why should we pay whatever astronomical amount was offered for him to produce what he's produced so far this year?

I agree 78, and I love the idea of bringing in Bell, but if he walks as a FA after the season, I'm not sure I want to sacrifice Colby to get him.

We won't boo you out of the group SGB, but I still want Albert a Cardinal for life.......just not at the $300M for 10 years kind of nonsense. The key to me is that if Albert DOES leave.......Mozeliak should have $25M-$30M to spend on the roster that was earmarked for Pujols. If he uses that and uses it wisely, it will ease the sting of AP leaving.
