So...to sum it up...Dallas cut loose Roy Williams, Marion Barber, Leonard Davis, and Marc Columbo. Maybe he is going off the fact that Garrett was 5-3 after Wade got fired? Which, by the way projects to a 10-6 season.I do not know the answers, but from the sidelines, I am worried.
You should be worried.
I know Jerry, he knows me.
We are of a similar but different natures, once cuddling our fan-base and now mocking them.

Maybe you should make an appointment with Jerry's plastic surgeon.

Doubt that would help, please keep in mind this picture of me is at least 2 years old!
think many dallas fans are worried.... and for good reason. this team seems like a .500 team or maybe a little better. secondary is still a huge concern and romo playing 16 games this season doesn't transulate to more wins. so glad the season is back, but really wondering how dallas improves much over last season.

Jeff, anything Jerry does or does not do, shouldn't surprise you. It doesn't me......anymore. They've been pretty quiet in Free Agency, and I was really surprised they were "in the running" for "that guy" from the Raiders...Asomghua, or however it's spelled.
If they have something up their sleeve, they're sure keeping it under wraps.

Defensively...with Abe Abraham coming in, that is an upgrade over Alan Ball for darn sure...Kenyon Coleman graded out better last season than Olshansky, Bowen and Hatcher, so there is another upgrade.
While they may not be "splashes", they are upgrades and they are cap-friendly ones too!
Jenkins and Newman are good corners...bottom line, Phillips scheme became stale, old and predictable...making them sitting ducks without 2 good safties or pressure from the front 4 helping them out.
I think and hope Ryan's scheme will create lots of pressure and force turnovers.
On Offense: Tony Romo does translate to more wins...purely on talent over Kitna alone.
I think using Choice and the new rookie running back is another upgrade over Barber.
Going with a more agile line vs the lumbersome Davis and Columbo is another bright spot because Dallas can pull more and get Felix into space, which is where we all know he burns people.
I am worried every offseason, but, it appears to me, Dallas is going with the Garrett way, which is to keep a low profile.

interesting observations..... agree with most here except the romo transulating to more wins part. certainly romo has more talent than kitna and age is on his side. but romo was 1-4 as a starter last season before the injury. now i know everyone is going to blame that start on wade, but that's the problem here..... fans keep making excuses for this guy. the team was expected to be a superbowl contender last year and they absolutely sucked under romo the first 5 games. talent alone will not make a great NFL QB. stats mean nothing when your team has won what 1-2 playoff games in the last 12 yrs. and many think that's why the team won more under kitna.... he has fire and some leadership. and when you need a drive in the last few minutes to win a game, the team seemed to believe more under kitna's leadership than romo's. and they actually put together a few drives late to win games under kitna. that doesn't happen with romo. so we get rid of wade, hire a disciplined coach and romo is back. can't wait for the excuses to start rolling in when dallas goes .500 this year LMAO!!

If Romo were the cause for the 1-4 start, I would be with you 100%...problem is, Romo, had his numbers held for the remainder of the season was on track for over 5000yds passing and 35 Td's....which is huge!
I recall Tony having everything to do with Dallas scoring that late TD to tie Tennessee, only to see that moron Columbo give up the penalty for celebrating and a short field, allowing the Titans to get amazing field position and ultimately the score.
Tony did not play D, the last I recall?
Nor was he a part of the field goals missed vs the Vikes, ultimately with them hitting a late FG to win 24-21.
That is 2 wins right there...putting Dallas at 3-2 vs 1-4 when he went down.
Football is a team sport and if the D steps up with the small upgrades I mentioned above, as well as Ryan's scheme...the O has not changed and will be better with the infusion of youth...
So, as I said, on the surface, things looked bad...but Dallas was right there...

I wholeheartedly agree with you, Jeff. Romo could only do what Garrett called, and does not play defense. Wade's defense fell completely apart, and the QB just simply cannot score enough points to keep them in games. This year should tell, if the 'Boys don't have too many serious injuries.
I think there was a skunk in the woodpile somewhere last year with the defense. They gave it up, and quit playing for Wade.

valid points..... BUT at some point this team is going to win with romo at QB or not. now, not all the blame can be placed on one person - this is a team sport, as you said. however, the QB is the leader on the field (staubach/aikman) and the highest paid player. when a team wins... the QB gets credit that he does not always earned and the same can be said for losing. although romo is not considered old, he is 31 and can't be considered still "learning" the position. aikman retired at 35.... you think romo has any chance at age 35 of having accomplished anything near what aikman did? sure, stats might be there, but again, isn't this a team sport and what good are stats when teams can't win big playoff games. also, a true measure of a teams success is playoff wins and rings..... and i'd bet my daughter's college savings romo will not have a ring at age 35. and i bet if romo and the cowboys don't start to put together wins in dec/jan, JJ will and alot of fans will begin to see romo for what he is - a talented athlete with absolutely no leadership skills that do ultimately affect the chemistry of a team's performance. i'd love to see romo lead this team to some meaningful victories in post season play. but like many, many fans, i just don't see it.

Staubach and Aikman also had running games too, and a huge O line, not to mention not too shabby of a defense that didn't give up like they did last year. Nowadays, it's running back by committee. Dorsett and Smith.........you'll not find any more like those two, IMO.....maybe before, like Payton, but none since Smith.
Mike, whether Romo ever wins anything is really beyond our control. He might not, but he sure beats what they have had since Aikman. I know I've said that before, but Jerry is all google eyed over Romo, whether we like it or not, and griping won't change anything..............:-)
Enjoy the games for what they are, and hope for the best.

I am worried to especially at CB I don't think Terrence Newman and his groin will hold up and Jenkings was terrible last year and on top of that no Safety's and with the lockout and a new D coordinator with a complex scheme I see Dallas going 7&9 or 8&8.

Newman has been injury prone, I agree. I believe Jenkins will rebound, tho. They went to calling questionable pass interference calls on him a lot last year, and I think he got gun shy somewhat. Let's see if Ryan can do the Army thing on these guys...."Be All You Can Be"...we just might be pleasantly surprised. These guys were good enough to become pros, even if it takes this year to get them on the same page. I really don't expect them to be in the SB, so I'll be happy with a winning season. Anything more than that is gravy.

I don't see how he can't. Anything would be better than last years defense.

He will. IMO, the biggest off-season signing for Dallas was Rob Ryan.

Jerry Jones is running a HUGE risk at putting another 6-10, 7-9 or 8-8 team on the field this season.
What scares me, is that the schedule may make us look better than we are. So - say they make the playoffs (maybe, win a game...just good enough to get another middling draft pick). Does Jerry sit idle again next year (for the third year in row), thinking he has a championship caliber team?
