NBA  > General NBA  > The Ten Most Disappointing #1 picks in NBA Draft History
August 16, 2011, 03:30 PM
Who would you have as the ten most disappointing Number one Picks in the NBA Draft. Here are my ten picks:

10. Greg Oden (2007)
9. Andrew Bogut (2005)
8. Kenyon Martin (2000)
7. Elton Brand (1999)
6. Joe Smith (1995)
5. Larry Johnson (1991)
4. Glenn Robinson (1994)
3. Danny Manning (1998)
2. Derrick Coleman (1990)
1. Yao Ming (2002)

I have left out notable draft busts Michael Olowokani and Kwame Brown for a reason. Neither of them were considered as major impact players and were more gambles than anything else. Elgin Baylor picked Olowokandi in a stacked draft over players such as Vince Carter, Antawn Jamison, and Sharif Abdur Rahim--players who were considered as sure things. I mean, Wally Szcerbiak would have made a better number one pick than Olowokandi. The same goes for Kwame Brown. Both Brown and Olowokandi can be considered as the greatest draft blunders of all time, but it would be unfair to place them in this list because the ones who picked them were idiots to start of with.

Some would even place Raptor Andrea Bargnarni on this list, but I did not because I believe that he is still a work in progress and the jury is still out on him. He has improved statistically each season in the league and and he spent most of career playing behind Chris Bosh. now with Bosh gone, we have seen what Andrea Bargnarni was capable of and he did rather well leading his team in scoring. bargnarni proved Bryan Colangelo right and quieted many skeptics. Last season alone proved without a doubt that he was a worthy pick at number one.

Disagree? Well then tell me who you would put in their place. Can't wait to see the responses.

I don't know why others have not commented but personally I do not understand your list. Is it in order? Yao Ming is definitely not number one, doubt he belongs on the list at all. Your reasons for leaving out Kwame Brown and Olowokandi do not hold water......aaaand....Did you just say that you left them out because "the ones who picked them were idiots to start of with"??....... Really?
