Lyoto Machida's manager has said that the contracts for a fight between Lyoto Machida and Phil Davis have been issued.

Now, it looks like Machida and Davis are set to fight each other at a later date.

"We had the first contacts and we may soon know more," Machida's manager told Yahoo Esportes. "[Davis] is the most concrete option in the division. He'd be a huge opponent for Lyoto, who's one of the biggest idols of the sport in Brazil and needs to fight again soon."

The winner of this fight could potentially have an opportunity to fight for the light-heavyweight championship, and when commenting on the fight, Machida stated that it would be a "... clash of styles."

"Davis is a wrestler, who keeps a strong rhythm on all the rounds until the end. I would need to adjust some aspects in my training to fight him, but this technical change always was one of my best characteristics. I won't have any problems."

Davis beat Machida's teammate and coach, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, at UFC Fight Night 24, so this could be a chance for Machida to avenge Nogueira's loss.

This light-heavyweight matchup promises to be an exciting fight between two of the best fighters and prospects in the division.

This should be a fun fight to watch but I dont see Davis having much of a chance. Machida will not be easly taken down and Davis will get tested. If he can beat Machida he is the real deal if not he might follow the path of Ryan Bader.

I think Davis needs Forrest or Franklin...not Machida. Machida has too many tools in his tool box for Davis right now. Davis needs to keep logging cage time and work on his standup...while not attractive to the UFC a Davis/ Bader fight would be solid.
