NFL  > San Francisco 49ers  > Will the 49ers be strictly a running game this year?
August 20, 2011, 12:31 PM
The 49ers find themselves with a little bit of carry over from the Singletary Days. The offensive line does not seem to be able to pass block very well as witnessed in the New Orleans game, a aspect of the offense Singletary had no interest in, so will they continue with the run until they can draft or sign some offensive linemen that know how to pass block, they seem to block fairly well on running plays. Lets hope by the end of preseason they will have corrected their sloppy pass blocking.

Why is it that pass blocking seems to be so difficult. Maybe the NFL needs to change their rules a little bit.

Maybe they should legalize holding.

Hahahahahaha............! Then the O line could just start tackling the on coming rushers and sit on them too?..........lol

I think offensive linemen should be able to be 5 yards down field when a pass is thrown. The rule doesn't allow the offensive lineman to be aggressive at the line of scrimmage when a pass play is developing. Linemen are at a disadvantage because they can only retreat and form a pocket. If offensive linemen were able to block as if they were on a running play they would equalize the playing field with defensive linemen.

It is legal to grab a defensive linemen jersey as long as it is only in the area between his arms/chest.

They have a pretty talented stable, Frank Gore, Anthony Dixon, Kendall Hunter, Xavier Omon, They combined for over 200+ yards rushing against Oakland. Although I'd like to think that was impressive, I still have my doubts considering Oakland has had one of the worst rushing defenses over the past few years. It looks like that's all teams will have to do to beat Oakland, Run Baby Run.

We are going into week 13 and so far the 49ers haven't proven that they could put up big points and win a game solely based on the passing game. So it looks like things haven't changed much since this preseason thread.
