I agree the "nobody makes a profit" line, although technically accurate in a purely legal sense, sounds stupid. No one cares whether your business is legally considered "for profit" except the IRS. Believe it or not, Coach Saban does not take even a single dime from the University of Alabama. Every bit of his salary comes from booster contributions. It blows my mind that there are boosters this willing to contribute this much money, but it is true.
So you are saying that salary is the same as profit? Really??? That is not how I studied it.
And I think the IRS looks at those differently as well.
But if that what you have to believe to get by in your world, please go ahead
And there is a difference in "For Profit organization" and Not For Profit organization".
Exactly what do you think Non Profit means? That they take no money at all and everyone is working for free?
Man, wake up. Non Profit organizations make money, but the money is put back into the organization for capital and operating budgets, and no one *(ie, shareholders) make any money....see? Oh, and operating budgets mean administrative tasks, salaries, etc.

So you are saying Mr. Saban pays no taxes becouse he gets paid by boosters? I'm confused...

OK .....does Saben profit from this contract:
Per terms of the original deal, Saban salary is set to increase each year during the next four years. He made $3,750,000 during the 2008 season, with incentives pushing the total past $4 million. He is scheduled to earn $3.9 million this season, $4.1 million in 2010, $4.15 million the following year and $4.2 million in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
I guess this is just play money...

What???? How in the blue blazes of hell did you get that?
Salary is taxable as....salary.
Profits are taxable as capital gains or something like that.
Where do you come from? Aggie land?

you really must be from TAMU.
Yes, Saban profits (advantage; benefit; gain. ) from his contract...
No, Saban does not get profit (a. pecuniary gain resulting from the employment of capital in any transaction. Compare gross profit, net profit.
b. the ratio of such pecuniary gain to the amount of capital invested.) from his contract.
It really is SO simple....
ROFLMAO....my wife was reading over my shoulder and said..."Is that guy kidding?"
As I recall, despite what Defaul thinks, other people on the panel laughed when Saban said that and the moderator quickly moved to a commercial

I don't care who pays Saban's $4 million. Compare Bama to 5 years ago, and it's clear the Tide got their money's worth.

They might have laughed....but there is a distinct difference between a coaches salary and a business' profit.
Everyone can't be an Aggie....

I also agree Saban can make some comments that sound stupid. This one is reminiscent of his recent defense of oversigning. You know what's worse? Coaches who keep their mouths shut yet fail to compete at the top levels of CFB.

Nice spin. Just watched that segment...the laughter came about two comments later when Jay Bias said something and there was no quick cut to commercial.....wow, you might want to watch it again without your usual bias...

Hmmmm in the Casino I make no profit!
so when the previous coach at Alabama tucked a few bucks...did she have a profit?
There's a difference between salaries of people and profits of companies. If you don't know this, then I suggest you take a few courses on accounting.
What's he supposed to do? Work for free? You do realize that there are hundreds of thousands of people working at not-for-profit organizations and yet still getting salaries. Executives that work for the Red Cross? You guessed it. They get salaries.
You don't have to be the sharpest tool in the shed to know the difference between profits and salaries.
