NFL  > Kansas City Chiefs  > Chiefs Ownership / New GM Hire
January 6, 2009, 06:47 PM
Chiefs owner Clark Hunt has been very impressive over the past few weeks. He fired Carl Peterson mid-season and has managed to keep most of his G.M. search quiet from reporters. Will he continue to do an admirable job? Will he be able to lock up Pioli and if so, will Kirk Ferentz join him as Herm Edwards' replacement? Any thoughts on what's gone on so far?

Nothing at all has gone on so far. =P
No one has been hired yet, and no news has hit the wires.
Therefore my comment would be: We'll see.

My gut feeling is you can count the Browns out of the running, they are interviewing GM's left and right, and the owner is flappin his yap about everything.I am 90% sure Pioli will be our man thats just a gut feeling but my gut is 100% right 70% of the time.

My gut feeling is the Browns dont have much confidence that Pioli will accept their offer. They have been interviewing GM's left and right for 2 weeks.Plus their owner has been flappin his yap about everything.Clarks like a stealth bomber movin in on his target undetected. If Pioli really wants total control as far as startying from scratch personel wise then K.C. is ideal. He can choose a QB of his own, 30mil.$ in cap space and the 3rd pick in the draft. This is just a gut feeling but 80% of the time my gut is right every time.

I think Pioli is our guy. I've thought that since day one. I just didn't think Cleveland was the right fit for him. News broke about 20 minutes ago that Mangini will be the next Browns Coach. I think that pretty much means that Pioli is out of the picture for the Brownies. Pioli would never work with Mangini again since their spat over Spy-gate. I love what Clark has been doing so far with his silence. Browns fans were excited over Cowher, then Pioli over stupid comments made by Lerner. By hiring Mangini before a GM, Lerner has sent a message to the league that he considers himself to be more important in the development of the team than the future G.M.

Mangini is the new head coach at Cleveland, which means that they are out of the Scott Pioli sweepstakes. Pioli will be the Chiefs G.M. before the week ends. I think its a much better fit and he can hand pick his next head coach without a meddling owner like Lerner. Clark's gag order of the staff has been impressive. Players have been calling me, asking for info. No one there has a real clue of what's going on, except for the powers that be.

If Pioli doesn't take the job, Hunt should hire Shottenheimer.

Marty is out of the running. Clark is looking for someone who can be the G.M. for the next 15 - 20 years. I think the Pioli deal is close to completion, but if it doesn't get done... look for someone like Chris Polian from Indianapolis. It will be a young guy with plenty of football intelligence.
