NFL  > Chicago Bears  > Preseason game #2 Bears at Giants Thoughts?
August 23, 2011, 11:14 AM
I know I'm drinking the koolaide on this but I was very pleased with the results Monday night. Seriously, the only thing that mattered to me was how the OL played against the sack happy Giants. The OL proved it's improvement and that Tice and co are on the right track. Only giving up one sack in the GAME is HUGE for the Bears. HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!! Just last week they gave up 4/9 to the Bills and last year 9 in the first 1/2 of their regular season game with the Giants. So giving up ONE sack in the ENTIRE game was huge.

They're making progress, some only judge a game by the score but in preseason you look for other things and one big thing for the Bears was how the O' line performed and they did a decent job.

Ok, others will say the score was terrible, and others this or that, but it's preseason folks and none of it matters except the individual/squad matchups like the sack battle and the injuries which the Bears didn't have any serious ones.

The Giants however had TWO starting CB's injured one at least of whom is out for the season. This makes 4 CB's the Giants have lost this preseason and it might be the bell tolling on the Giants regular season.

Anyone who wants to be a pessimest remember the Lions of three years ago preseason vs regular season record.4-0 Pre, 0-16 regular. Remember also the Bears have won ONE preseason game in the last 1 1/2 preseasons, but went 11-5 in last years regular season.

So once again the PreSeason means NOTHING except the chance to learn the abilities of individual players or groups, and the risk of getting your players injured. I for one was PROUD of the accomplishment of giving up only ONE sack in the game by this very young unit. Prediction, next week they will work on red zone scoring. Go BEARS!!!

I would be worried about the D-backfield if it wasn't preseason and I knew that they were running a vanilla defense.

Wasn't that showing of the Oline great JD'S? Only one sack from perfection on the coattails of a 9 sack embarasment last game.

BF,it was preseason,it's gonna happen too all alot of the teams,no sweat till the 1st real game.

Preseason games are more for evaluating rookies and new personnel. I'm not worried yet.

Speaking of evaluating rookies, we have two rookie WR's who have been looking very, very, good and a third who in almost any other year would be considered highly. Meaning Dane Sanzenbacher, Onrea Jones and Kris Adams have all been looking very good. Makes me wonder about the wisdom of counting on Sam Hurd as an automatic keeper who is considered a special teamer and not a performing WR. If we keep 6 WR's right now it would probably be, Hester, Williams, Knox, Bennett, Hurd, and one of the 3 aformentioned rookie FA players. Andy Fantuz has lost out totally and won't make this team in any way, chance, or form.

Any chance we can trade Fantuz or Hurd for a 5th to 7th round pick? I know Minn, Pitt, and NE all wanted to sign Fantuz. It seems to me that Fantuz just thought that he was a lock to come in and make the team if not start, and he hasn't shown us ANYTHING!!! If we could trade Hurd and Fantuz, it would allow us to keep two of these three FA rookies who have been performing so well. Just something I wanted to throw out there...

bump

August 25, 2011  06:00 PM ET

Is that bump the Cowboys getting run over this season or what Bull_Shirt? Remember this no one expected the Bears to do well last year and they brought home the NFC North crown. Your Cowboys might just suprise you this season especially if they get a full season from Romo.

The Bears will be okay. I'm not worried yet.

Did everyone see where some reporter for the Lions is predicting that the LIONS will go 16-0 this season!!!!! Really! No lack of confidence in that man.

The Lions will be tough, but 16-0? I doubt it.

Preseason games don't mean much unless you're a rookie trying to make the team.

He better hope the team is that confident, too. lol

You can get a feeling of the teams continuity of how they mesh/play together as individual units, and their depth too (or lack of), but to think you can have any idea of what their record in the regular season is going to be is absurd.

Last year, in my opinion, was the coaches fault. Wade was also in charge of the defense. He was too busy being the "Head Coach" and all the "glamour" that goes with it. It wouldn't surprise me if he delegated the defense to someone who had no clue, or experience.....like maybe the cheerleaders?.......lol

But, on the other hand, the players quit on him. There's a lot of talent there, but someone wasn't getting it out of them. I'm not making excuses, mind ya, nor am I defending them. This is strictly an opinion, which may or may not have any semblance of truth. It's just how I think of what happened.

Garrett was still the offensive coordinator during that slump, and I could make some conspiracy theories about why they were also losing on offense, but it's neither here nor there now. Last season is done and over with.

I will be happy with a winning season, if nothing else tho.

In the words of Martin Luther King.....well, somewhat........"He has a dream!".......maybe to make up for the 0-16 season?

My son in Afganistan roots for the Cowboys, so I have to keep an eye on them to fill him him on how they are doing. At least he says he roots for the Cowboys, I sometimes wonder if he isn't watching Dallas for the Cowgirls. Who by the way ALWAYS WIN. lol. I really hope some day that the Honey Bears can return.
