OK, a thread not about DUI's, assaults, drug use, improper bennies, or anything else sordid about CFB (barring some of the scheduled games). At long last the season is here. The games are as follows (using AP to include USC and maybe some others by the end of the season):

1. Oklahoma vs Tulsa
2. Alabama vs Kent State

5. Boise St. at 19 UGA
6. Florida St. vs UL Monroe
7. Stanford vs San Jose State
8. Texas A&M vs SMU - Outgoing vs Incoming Big 9 contest perhaps
9. Oklahoma St. vs UL Lafayette, spelling Lafayette will be harder than beating them
10. Nebraska vs Chatanooga Choo Choo - the little engine that couldn't in this one.

17. Michigan St. vs Youngstown State
18. Ohio St. vs Akron
20. Mississippi St. at Memphis - props for a road game
21. Missouri vs Miami (Ohio version)
22. Florida vs Florida Atlantic, the home state OOC tradition continues....
23. Auburn vs Utah State
24. West Virginia vs Marshall, good game last year
25. USC vs MINN

Other notables:

BYU at Ole Miss - Ole Miss took care of Fresno last year, ditto for BYU?
UCLA at Houston - Houston QB back for his 8th season.....
Fresno State at CAL - Might be the best game on the left coast this week
Northwestern at BC - should be two decent teams, hope to watch this baby

Why go out of state? Since 1983, the state of Florida has won 10 national titles.

Now hurry up with your picks so I can copy them. I am not kidding, at least about the copying part.

August 30, 2011  08:37 AM ET

My picks:

2. Alabama vs Kent State - Bama by 45
3. Oregon vs 4 LSU (Game of the week) - Ducks by 3
5. Boise St. at 19 UGA - BSU by 7, the Broncos have a few trick plays to mask weaker WR's
6. Florida St. vs UL Monroe - FSU by about 50
7. Stanford vs San Jose State - Stanford by 14 in a rivalry game
8. Texas A&M vs SMU - TAMU by 10, SMU will be great film on how to abuse the TAMU defense...

21. Missouri vs Miami (Ohio version) - MIZZ by 28
22. Florida vs Florida Atlantic - UF works out the kinks after a slow 1st Half and wins by 35
23. Auburn vs Utah State - War Eagle$ by 24
24. West Virginia vs Marshall - WVU by 7, new coach found drunk early Sunday Morning at a Waffle House
25. USC vs MINN - USC by 28. USC decides they will play some defense this year

In UF's defense two years ago the Owls were a decent team. It might be a good tune up.

August 30, 2011  08:43 AM ET

Bah, forgot the Miami vs Maryland game, should have made that a notable....

In any case its too early to call, as it greatly depends on who takes the field. If the Miami squad plays almost everyone they win by 7. If suspensions hit hard then Terps by 10.

With first year head coach with a new system on both sides of the ball, I would be upset with a tough opponent. The first game sets the tone for the season, or at least last year did.

My Picks (SEC homer style
OU
Bama
LSU
UGA
Florida State College for Women
Stanford
TAMU (Defense gives up 0 points if accepted into the SEC, 24 if not.)
OkSU
Nebraska
Wisky by a lot (I really like Russell)
The fighting Spurriers
Hokies
TCU
SEC's red head step child
USF
MSU
Ohio State (that is some high quality H2O
More cowbell
Missouri
UF
Auburn
WVU
USC
BYU (Ole Miss sucks, last season for the Nutt in the SEC)
Houston
Fresno
NW

Figure Rice has zero shot so left that game of the notables list. Regardless of rankings the UCLA/Texas remach will be up for that week.

No Spread? Should be easy...(lol)
1. Oklahoma vs Tulsa - OU
2. Alabama vs Kent State - Bama
3. Oregon vs 4 LSU (Game of the week) - O: this is a hard one, but the LSU QB out gives the ducks the nod, but it could still go either way; if the Ducks do win it could be cl9ose or a blowout, an LSU win would be their D so a low scoring game.
5. Boise St. at 19 UGA - BSU
6. Florida St. vs UL Monroe - FSU
7. Stanford vs San Jose State - Stanford
8. Texas A&M vs SMU - TAMU tho I could go with the upset of the week here...
9. Oklahoma St. vs UL Lafayette - OkSU
10. Nebraska vs Chatanooga -NEB
11. Wisconsin vs UNLV - Wiscy
12. South Carolina vs ECU - So Car
13. Virginia Tech vs APP State - Va Tech
14. TCU at Baylor - TCU, tho this could go B's way
15. Arkansas vs Missouri State - Arky
16. Notre Dame vs USF - ND
17. Michigan St. vs Youngstown State - MSU
18. Ohio St. vs Akron - TOSU
20. Mississippi St. at Memphis - MSU
21. Missouri vs Miami (Ohio version) - Mizo
22. Florida vs Florida Atlantic - Florida
23. Auburn vs Utah State - Aubie
24. West Virginia vs Marshall - WVU
25. USC vs MINN - USC: This one is the REAL start to the Kiff era IMO, the scholly reductions haven't hit yet and the staff has a yr under their belt; Yeah it's early but a real indicator of the future IMO. Last yr the O was real good in spots but VERY INCONSISTANT. The D was turruble all the way around.

This is the week for upsets, but most of the top 25 are playing teams that there's no way an upset's gonna happen, the others are playing teams that whoever wins it's not an upset. but there could be a couple.

Actually, these are the only games that are a challenge:
BYU vs Ole Miss: Since it's at Ole Miss I'll give it to them in a close one.

UCLA at Houston: Can UCLA repeat it's 2 marvels of last year (Houston and Texas)? I don't think so, and it's at Houston, so I'm going with...UCLA. Hey, gotta balance those SEC Homers with a little PAC love.

FSU at Cal: Cal all the way baby, but these are they type games Fresno loves to sneak into and cause a little damage: like they did to USC in 2005 almost ending the Troy win streak in a game that should have given the ESPN "Best Team Ever?" idjits an idea that the D had some holes that Vince Young later exploited.

Northwestern at BC: Flipped a coin (seriously), it came up tails: Sorry NorthWestern, but BC wins this one cuz of my coin flip.

You're goin with Mary Hardin B to upset my Frogs (hey, if default can have 2 teams I want a 2nd team too)? Axshully I can see this happening with Andy pitchin for the Bengals...
And Miami's day's of glory are done: the beginning of the end this LD weekend.

EWO, you going to be able to catch the OU vs Tulsa game? Its the only way I will be able to get any kind of feel at all for when FSU plays them.

Gotta work most of the day, so I'm going to have to record it.

Start a new job next week though, and I'll have weekends off again. Just in time!

I'd truly love to see Minnie win its opener, but the Killer Gs haven't got enough to knock off USC in the Coliseum, no matter who's coaching who.

August 30, 2011  03:12 PM ET

Kellen Moore is a great QB and Petersen operates is the full coaching package but... Boise has NO deep ball game this year and that means they will not be able to stretch the field as in seasons past. Moore's underneath passing game (so important to previous Bronco successes) is going to struggle. In addition, this is an SEC front 7 - not an ACC front 7 - and certainly not a WAC or MWC front 7. UGA will win this game - outright.

A blind squirrel gets a nut every once a while especially at Ron Zook Field.
