NFL  > Chicago Bears  > Chicago Bears Wide Receivers??
January 7, 2009, 10:38 AM
The Chicago Bears need WR's to make it next year. Who will they take or pick up? Would the Bears go for a rookie next year or bring a free agent in. The Bears have been get hurt with free agent WR's last year. They brought Brandon Lloyd and Marty Booker in my mind waste of money. Who should the Bears pick up. Could they pick up T.J Housmandazeh or will they go into the draft picking WR. Or will it be the Bears don't go for any WR's and say they are set.

Keep Lloyd and get Housmandazeh if we can and pick a receiver in the draft. With #1 Houzmandzadeh and #2-4 being a fight between the draft pick and Hester with Lloyd as some depth we could actually have a pretty good receiving corp. Then all we would need is someone who could actually call plays to make use of them.

anquan bloden anyone? He wants mo money and arizona wont "pay" him, so lets make a trade and put some money in offense, plus keep Lloyd when he was healthy he was a beast

No high draft pick rookie wide reciever has made an instant impact, perhaps in the later rounds of the draft. As for the comments by bgduece, where have you been for the last few months under a rock. Burress will be in jail by this time next year serving a three year sentence for firing an unregistered fire arm and trying to cover it up. As for Johnson, he wants out, Bengals want to keep him to keep Palmer happy. In a far fetched world perhaps get Palmer and Johnson out of cincinnati for two number ones and add in Vasher a pro bowl corner.
As for Javyha it is the same story for Boldin as it is for Johnson. The cardinals don't want to get rid of him. Edrigen James is easier to get and even after he demanded a trade or release they still didn't. A three million dollar back up. As for Nordic I agree get Housmandazah(look I will learn how to spell it if we get him) he will provide an instant impact and make Hester and the rest of the recievers better. Draft a reciever in the latter rounds. But we need a qb. Next blog.

Michael Crabtree is the closest WR to Plaxico Burress in the draft. Did anyone see last year how badly Al Harris got manhandled by Plax. That is what the bears need. Housh if possible, Boldin with a trade (not like angelo ever gets good draft picks anyways {bazuin, Okwo, Benson, Grossman, etc}). Draft whomever, Rod Marinelli wants to fix the DL, start Williams, move St. Clair to LG, draft a second RB in the mid to late rounds, move vasher to mike brown's safety slot, start manning and we are instantly a contender. This would be a low impact on the cap overall, and we wouldn't be solving problems with high-priced old free agents (marty booker, Muhsin muhammed, etc.) and would set our team up for not one super bowl run but many.

IMHO they need to make receivers their #1 priority, not finding another QB. Orton may not be Tom Brady (or even Matt Cassell), but look who he had to throw to! The notion of using Devin Hester as a WR needs to get tossed to the back burner... bring him in on the occasional third-and-long, but don't waste any more time to turn him into Deep Threat. That completely took him out of his rhythm as a return man. It's time to have real, quality receivers out there at Soldier Field, and it might be time to have someone other than Jerry Angelo making personnel decisions at Halas Hall.

CHad Jonson and Plaxico Burress will both be availableby late summer, sing them to incentive laced contracts would push them on perfromance...if they show up at all, that would be better than what we have...

Do the Bears really need that kind of baggage?

Even though I hate the Bears I think picking up Crabtree in the draft would be huge for you guys, the only thing is you need a QB to throw him the ball on a consistent basis.

Even though I hate the Bears with a passion, getting Crabtree would be huge for you guys

If we don't go after Housmandazeh then get a wide receiver from the draft like the kid from Texas tect or the kid from Florida. we need speed on offense and we need a second running back to compliment Forte. All offense this draft.

I hate the Cowgirls with even more of a passion, and I wouldn't draft Crabtree unless he was available in the third round. A proven NFL wide receiver is needed. Boldin or Hooshmanzadeh would be welcome...if they'd sign with the Bears!

Without question...proven playmakers, then al we would need is a a Offensive Coordinator

We definitely need an OC.

Boldin or Hous****** would be great additions. We don't need cancers like Plax or Johnson! Tory Holt would give us some depth and he is a team player. There will be some good WRs in the 2nd round Kenny Britt or Hakeem Nicks. With Tillman having surgery on both sholders we need a CB in the 1st rnd. I like RB Rashad Jennings in the 3rd or 4th rnd. He is big and fast. He could play FB if needed.

boldin and hous will not be options, neither will be going anywhere. bringing in marty booker was a rather dumb move in my opinion. i dont even know if the bengals let ocho go anywhere, if they do his value wont be as high as it wouldve been the past couple of yrs. crabman will be gone by the time the bears pick, if they want to roll the dice early and go with maclin that would be a possibility. hester will be a big time baller next yr, so they really only need one more quality WR

January 16, 2009  08:24 AM ET

dang it, didnt even post my earlier comment!

boldin and hous wont be options next yr. ocho probaly wont be going anywhere either as the bengals would in essence have to "give him away" because his trade value dipped considerably from last yr and they didnt even want to move him then. the signing of marty booker was a bonehead move! hester will be balling next yr and they really only need another "quality" WR. crabman will be long gone by the time the bears pick, they might take a shot on maclin or see what happens in free agency
