I am surprised that the All-Star games like Army All-American and Under Armour are not expenses provided, they have sponsorship and are shown on TV.

Just wondering here, but are walk-ons held to the same standard as scholarship players?

September 7, 2011  01:07 PM ET

Shame on all those people helping out a guy coming from a rough life who wants to try and compete in NCAA-sponsored athletics. They should have known this stuff was illegal benefits to a kid who was hungry, had few clothes and shuffled around living with extended family.

Holy cow, this whole thing is just warped beyond comprehension.

I am sure they are, that would be an easy loophole to exploit.

Think so too, just never heard it discussed before.

Yah, but remember, its the folks that want payers to be paid that are the corrupt evil booster masterminds....

Wait, I thought it was the evil Ponzi schemers. Does that mean Miami is doing it wrong?

All athletes are held to the same standard regardless of scholarship status...otherwise you could have the best athletes in the country going to a school as a "walk-on" and being paid...this would undermine the NCAA's system...no matter how effed up that system is

Good thing I was never an NCAA athlete, I had to do a fundraiser so I could go to a HS Football All-Star game too.

My HS athletics program had a bunch of fundraisers like this, and there was plenty of NCAA athletes from my school.
