NHL  > General NHL  > Changing the way All-Stars are selected.
January 8, 2009, 12:29 PM
This year has definately proven that Fan Balloting doesn't work! I think it is high time the league step in here, and change the format of All-Star selection. Does anyone have any ideas? Here' mine;

As usual, the teams would consist of 4 forward lines, 3 defensive pairings and 3 goalies. The All-Star team would be picked 1 week prior to the game. The roster would break down as such;

Line 1: The Top Point Producing LW, C & RW in each conference
Line 2: The Top Plus/Minus Rated LW, C & RW in each conference
Line 3: Top Fan Balloted LW, C & RW in each conference
Line 4: Coaches Selection for Team Roundout.

Def 1: The 2 Top Point Producing Defencemen in each conference
Def 2: The 2 Top Plus/Minus Rated Defencemen in each conference
Def 3: The 2 Top Fan Balloted Defencemen in each conference

Goalie 1 : Top Save % Goalie in each conference
Goalie 2 : Top GAA Goalie in each conference
Goalie 3 : Top Fan Balloted Goalie in each conference

I figure it's an ALL STARS Game, let's give them ALL STARS. Players will get there based on merit, not popularity.
