NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > BIG 10/11 EXPANSION NEWS

The expansion into super-conferences is an unfortunate reality for college football today. The Big 12 and Big East were great conferences and although they're not gone yet, it's hard to believe that they'll be around much longer. With that said, the Big Ten is then most likely to expand and be one of those super-conferences.
And since that appears to be where college football is headed, here are five team the Big Ten should pursue.

1. Notre Dame
2. Iowa St.
3. Missouri
4. West Virginia
5. Kansas

At one point last week, even Texas was mentioned, but that has since been dismissed.

ISU ahead of Missouri? Why?

It's just an overall list I think, although Notre Dame is the key to success here in bringing in the big bucks.

Which of your 5 teams are UAA members? Since the B1G is made up of all UAA members, I would think they would want to retain that component.

*AAU*....not UAA.

On this list, it appears that Notre Dame and WVU are not members.

I think this more about ease of moving the team, than anything. There was talk the last few weeks of bringing in TEXAS of all teams, but that was a monster that was never going to fit anyway. Iowa would be a geographic move along with Kansas and Mizzo, but W. Virgina is a stretch. ND would be the serious catch, and it looks more and more like it's going to happen. Mich., OH St., Neb., ND, WI. are some pretty big names in one conf. It looks inevitable that 4/16 team "super conf" are forming. YIKES! Talk about a beat down for those teams who will NEVER achieve anything in those situations.

I think the B1G will think twice before a non-AAU member is voted into the conference. Even ND. Conference affiliation is more than just football.

This isn't about football anymore, it's about money. ESPN (hate that channel, but it is what it is for info) has been doing interviews with conf. coaches, and all have said they are never consulted about this situation It's the Univ. presidents & Co. pulling the strings. The once head of the Big East conf. said it best when he stated yesterday it's MONEY, GREED and POWER, and it stinks.

Of your list, I say Mizzou and Notre Dame are the only ones they should pursue. Both add new big markets and sizable fanbases. ISU, while an AAU school, gives them a second school in a small market, which basically gives them nothing other than a warm body.

DITTO, I think (see the link) this is more about location, location, location, than seeming a smart move. Who knows, the bomb has yet to go completely off.

NEWS FLASH! MIZZO to SEC, and ND to the ACC.......according to the PTI (ESPN) disco petes.

If Notre Dame joins then all this expansion talk will end. Rumor has it that Notre Dame wants to join the ACC....that means NOTRE DAME is scared...they need to grow a pair and join the BIG10. Notre Dame knows they could average 8 wins a year in the ACC and wants to go the easy route. Stupid IRISH....the legend is over...no kid wants to go to a freezing cold school and pay for old school...they want NEW and AWESOME (OREGON or SEC)

September 21, 2011  10:33 AM ET

Notre Dame started this mess....if they would have become the 12th team for expansion then Nebraska would have not left then colorado would have not left then the BIG12 Texas AM would not have asked to be bent over by the SEC.....then TCU would have maybe not left the MWC

September 21, 2011  10:34 AM ET

Blame Notre Dame....i mean if Colorado still left then the BIG12 should invite BYU....good academics and good facilities....plus Texas and OU can beat up on them every year!

September 21, 2011  10:35 AM ET

Notre Dame needs to come down off their high horse and wake up the "echoes"...oh wait...the "echoes" are gone!
