NFL  > General NFL  > Walter Payton

I'm not sure why this crappy book by Jeff Pearlman is getting press. Why must he disparage Payton's name in the interest of making money? He says in his Q&A "He was so good to the fans. That's why he's iconic. He treated people with dignity."

Pearlman has no business talking about dignity. He certainly didn't treat Walter Payton with dignity. Leave it alone.

Saw the opener on the SI main page and made a conscious (sp?) decision to NOT click on the damn link. Real easy to go around and take hearsay and anecdotal evidence from folks years after the fact and cobble together another POS book. THis is just SI promoting their own writers....publish or perish. Won't read his crap book.

I was about to slam SI myself here, but you beat me to it. TOTAL garbage, and not shocking at all coming from SI who is turning into the ESPN way of covering all things sports. Nothing more than a smear job (think National Enquirer) to ruin a players legacy. What Payton did off the field is between him and those involved, and not for the general public. Unless you're scum like the writer, ignore this filth. Why doesn't this bum (Pearlman) include EVERY player who ever did the same thing? OH, I know, objective/fair writing was never the point, but to sell books and make money of the man's life style. How dirt-bag American.

hmm,.....trump-vodka, trump-ties, trump-toilet/paper...?

Now now Mother please don't bring up the obvious.

Agree with everyone here, leave the man's memory alone. To put in mildly, everyone "abused" pain killers in those days, heck BF had a serious problem. Judging peoples past actions that took place years ago by today's standards is LOCO.
