NCAAF  > Purdue Boilermakers  > Analysis of Purdue's Win at NU last night
January 16, 2009, 09:11 AM
Last nights game obviously had it's good and bad.

1 - I can't for the life of me figure out why we responded so poorly to the 1-3-1. It's a troublesome, tiring defense that is tough to play against, and NW absoultely kept the screws tightened on it for a good 35 out of the 40 minutes. We have to figure out a way to get more downhill dribble when we are backed up at half court like that.

2 - LewJack is young, he needs more experience in not allowing himself to get into situations where he is bodied up with guys that big. He needs to keep moving. His size makes it tough to have good pass vision when he is surrounded. I'd argue Moore made some of the exact mistakes as LewJack - but since Moore is a little bigger, I think his turnovers were simply poor decisions that he should be reducing - he's a 40 game starter now - not simply a Sophomore.

3 - Grant was much better at spotting up. He's just not a movement shooter.

4 - Despite the 1-3-1, we managed to force a round peg into a square hole and force the issue to win this game. I'm not certain we were close to solving that defense, but we forced the issue down low which helped.
