NFL  > Chicago Bears  > Weeks 8 and 9. Bye week and Phily in Philly. What's right and wrong. Plus your opinions.

The Bears did it. They FINALLY are over .500 with this win against Tampa and look to be heading in the right direction. With our upcoming schedule they should only do better. In their last 9 games they only have 4 good teams scheduled. Two of these games are at home. That means they should win at least 5 of them. I personally think they will win at LEAST 7 of them. This would give the Bears an 11-5 record. With the schedules for the rest of the season for GB and Detroit being tougher, we could/should gain ground on both of them. I doubt if we can catch the Packers, but the Lions are only one game ahead of us and we play again in Chicago. At least we would make the playoffs and as the Packers proved last year anything can happen if you make it to the big dance.

During the bye week the Bears should get back Carimi and Bennett with everyone else getting healthier. This will give us 6 respectable OLmen, 5 of whom are young. The return of Bennett will give us 2 Wrs who will go over the middle and catch the ball in traffic and over the middle. Sanzenbacher being the other. The jury is still out on Roy Williams but anything we can get from him would be huge. With a week or so's of practice and healing I expect our offense to be better. This can only help Jay and our passing game too. This is important since our D hasn't been very strong in the 4th quarter.

To me the thing that could destroy our team the easiest is Mike Martz's play calling. With our capabilities to run the ball effectively we really need to stress the running game and controlling the clock. This should help out the D if they don't have to stop the opponents as much in the 4th quarter with the game on the line if the O is controlling the ball and thus the clock.

I'm very pleased with the development of the Safety Chris Conte. He reminds me of Gary Fencik someone who doesn't get the credit for what he did or meant to the 85 Bears. If the Safety play can get better in the next 2 weeks, this could be huge for the D. Finding someone to start beside him is imperative. Fortunately Strong Safetys are much easier to find than free safetys.

One thing I don't understand is why the D line isn't doing very well. Someone (or multiple someones) need to help out Peppers with getting consistant pressure on the opponents QBs. He can not do it alone, and needs help. If they don't get more effective I expect the Bears to draft a DLine man in the Draft, if they don't sign one in Free Agency.

The upcoming draft was to me, our chance to fill in any weak spots that we needed help with. CB, Wr, Oline, and linebacker were all obvious improvement areas. But with the lack of a pass rush we might need to draft a Dlineman in the first round. Since Paea hasn't broken into the starting lineup yet, we can't tell what he's going to be yet. If he can improve however, does this mean that JA/the Bears had a good draft? I'm not ready to go there yet, but I realize the potential of the players we have and want to see more improvement.

Philly has not been the "Dream Team" that they were made up to be in the press. We should be able to run the ball, and if so, we should win this upcoming game in Philly. Comments, suggestions for what you the Bears should do during the Bye? Fire Martz? Etc? Feel free to say what you think, GO BEARS!!!

The Bears released former ProBowl safety Chris "Hitman" Harris today after trading for him just last year. I hope this doesn't come back and bite us in the you know where. He requested a trade two weeks ago, but Lovie insists he was dropped due to his lack of quality playing. He gave up a TD pass to a Wr, and dropped an interception just this week in London. Personally I wonder if he is entirely healthy from his leg injury earlier this year. GO BEARS!!!

Matt Forte would also like to be traded.

Did you get that off the Onion news network Drip Drop? If it's really true and not a spoof, it will send shivers and fear throughout Chicago Bear fans the world over. Say it ain't so Matt! Even though I wouldn't really blame him as much as JA and the other Bear upper management for playing around with him just so they could save a few dollars. GO BEARS!!!

I heard that Forte is very unhappy over his contract talks.

October 29, 2011  04:26 AM ET

Sgt. Friday, That Matt Forte is upset with his lack of a fair contract is well known. Also well known is the huge risk he is taking on gettting injured and maybe destroying his chances of getting the contract he deserves. That would be a travesty and I for one am ashamed of how the Bears are treating him. He has proven his ablilities and if he would lose his ability to play by a career ending injury then he would lose everything. This is dirty sportsmanship in the extreme and I for one am ashamed that the Bears would treat anyone this way. All I can say is good luck Matt and I for one am praying for your health. If the Bears continue to treat their players this way they won't be able to get a janitor to work for them!!!

New news, Chris "Hitman" Harris has signed with the Lions!!!!!! If he can physically perform at last years level this will be a huge help for the Lions. Their weakness in the the Defensive Backfield has been known/obvious and he could really be a missing link for them to possibly make the playoffs or more!!! Good for the Lions and another Duh moment for JA, Lovie and the Bears management. This could really hurt the Bears more than Lovie etc will admit. I'm anxious to see just what Lovie says. I know he will candy coat it, but this will hurt us no matter what he says. GO BEARS!!!

Didn't Bears Mgmt shat all over one of your linebackers about 2-3 yrs ago? I recall seeing that and thinking....give the man some money. What was his name and situation? I think he was MLB, next to Urlacher. Held out for a portion of camp.

October 29, 2011  11:25 AM ET

His name is Lance Briggs outside linebacker. He is still on the team. He is currently upset with his front ended loaded current contract, and has asked for it to be renegotiated with 3 years of a 6 year deal left!!! Basicly he got the big money and doesn't want to take the small amount of pay he agreed to in the last 3 years.
3 years ago the Bears management offered him a contract when he was a free agent,(The one he is currently under.) and they expected him to leave. However he tested the waters and decided to stay in Chicago. I know this is complicated so ask any more questions you have and I'll try my best to answer them. GO BEARS!!!

I saw yesterday on the NFL network that Marshall Falk said that he thought that Matt Forte is the best runningback in the NFL!!! Watch out JA his price is going up!!! GO BEARS!!!

Now Forte will actually think he's better than Adrian Peterson. The Bears will trade him for sure.

Forte isn't going anywhere so don't get your hopes up Mr Trump.

Wow, the Eagles looked like a SuperBowl team out there tonight against Dallas. Hope the Bears can get as much mileage out of their bye week. I'm especially thinking of the returning and healing players, and some much needed practice/brainstorming for Conte. Who actually IMO at the end of the season might be proven to be our most important draft pick of 2011. I still say he reminds me of a faster Gary Fencik. He just seems to be at the right place at the right time and then MAKES the tackle. I know only 2 games but we shall see...

I found it very interesting that Jeff Hughes said; "The Bears OL could "inarguably" be one of the best runblocking units in the sport!!!" Playoffs anyone??? GO BEARS!!! Win the SuperBowl or fire Lovie and JA!!! (Bust)

What are you smoking today?

October 31, 2011  08:32 PM ET

I was just about as amazed as you are drip drop. I think they have improved, but not that much!!! However one thing must be said, (for the first time since who knows when) the Bears actually have 6 respectable/average or a little above, Offensive linemen on the team! So next time ask what he's smoking and not me. lol. I did not say it, I just typed/repeated HIS words. GO BEARS!!!

I think in the next 7 weeks the Bears are going to prove to the NFL and fans what kind of team they are with 7 straight wins. It is time for this team to step foreward and show what they can do. That would put us in a good postion to go into GB and steal a win there!!! GO BEARS!!!!

So did you all think I had a coo coo clock in my head before the Philly game? Was that enough fight for everyone??? Hang on, we've got 6 more wins in a row coming. I'm going to enjoy watching the fans pour in rooting for the BEARS!!! This week Detroit, which will put us in second place. GO BEARS!!!

If the crowd is large and noisy Chicago will stand a better chance of winning. The offensive line must prove that they can protect Cutler. Philadelphia did not sack Cutler, the first time in a long time that he played a game in which he wasn't sacked.

November 8, 2011  06:40 PM ET

Ain't that the shamefull truth about the last time Cutler wasn't sacked. But with only 3 in the last 3 games we appear to be on the right track. This Sunday with the Lions is to me the key game of the season for the OL. GO BEARS!!!
