I must say that I am surprised. Maybe he's just had enough and wanted to go out on top. I hope it has nothing to do with inside information that Albert intends to go elsewhere.
Regardless of the reason, what a great run in St. Louis. 16 years, 9 playoff berths, won 12 playoff series with 3 pennants and a couple of championships. Nice Cardinal legacy.

Ain't nothin' wrong with going out on top. Tony has accomplished everything and anything anyone could want. Duncan needs to spend time with his wife.
Baseball familiies do benefit from a successful compensation package, and legacy, but the price of having a loved one away for so long over the course of 20+ something years diminishes the quality of life.
Never too far away, seeing Jim Edmonds in the press box was awesome, and men like Lou Brock, Red, Stan, Ozzie, Whitey, and now LaRussa and probably Duncan, I ramble, but they are Royalty in St. Louis.
Thank you for the great, great memories.

I have been following TLR's career since I lived in California. While some may say that he is rough around the edges at times, he truly knows and loves the game and I have to say that without a doubt, TLR is probably one of, if not the best managers in baseball. Obviously, he goes out on top. Tony, thanks for the memories. And this is what I have to say about your HOF chances: Your a first ballot shoe-in.
Thanks once again for the memories, Tony.
He's 67 in what has to be a grueling job. Good for him going out on top. And yes, thanks for some great memories
End of an era. I'm happy to see him going out on top!
