NFL  > General NFL  > It's Mid-season: Who's the Best Team in the AFC?
November 1, 2011, 03:20 AM
In other words, give me a chance to sit and talk about the Steelers!
Of course, I'm a little biased here, but after that win against New England I think I can get a few people to agree with me here ..
The Steelers are the best in the AFC. Their passing game has been great this season. After that horrible game in Baltimore in week one, Roethlisberger has been on a roll. Especially these last few games .. He looks like a quarterback that deserves to be in that elite category with Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. And the recievers have been great. Most impressively after the catch. The young guys look great, Mike Wallace is better then ever, Hines keeps making the few clutch plays he's made over the years, and Heath Miller has been quietly doing everything on offense for us, like always.
They have a solid running game that Ben can fall back on when he needs it (not to mention they have three quality backs: Rashard Mendenhall, Isaac Redman, and Mewelde Moore). They may not run the ball often, but when they do they can usually get the yardage they want. It's looking more and more like Bruce wants to use the pass to set up the run this season. It's not Steeler football but this is a passing league .. you have to change with the times, I think that's what he's doing.
The defense is superb. People like to talk about how the running defense isn't the greatest ever like last season, but they fail to mention that the backs we've faced have been the best in the league. (Arian Foster, Maurice Jones-Drew, Ray Rice, Chris Johnson, etc ..) And they've still maintained a top ten defense against them .. that's pretty impressive. Not to mention it's gotten better as the season has gone along.
The pass defense has been amazing. Man to man coverage has been successful throughout the year when they've used it, especially this Sunday in New England. The young guys have stepped up and contested these receivers. They have quietly retained their number one spot against the pass.
And how about the offensive line? They've been phenomenal these past couple games. With all the injuries I am shocked at how well they've done this season .. they've given Ben a lot of time throw the ball and they've opened up some holes on the ground this season.
And last but not least, they're playing with injuries. They're beat up ladies and gentlemen ... We've lost Aaron Smith again for the season. Our offensive line has been a revolving door. Ben's gotten smashed up. Hines Ward was out last week, along with Farrior our underrated middle linebacker. And our playmaker on defense, James Harrison has been out as well. Oh and guess what? His BACKUP has been out too! Guys, people are stepping up on both sides of the ball and playing with determination. I'm loving it.
The Steelers, at the moment, are the best in the AFC. They're gearing up next week against Baltimore ... a win there would be HUGE in the division. And don't forget about beating the Bengals up too .. those will be two surprisingly interesting games to watch ..

Honorable mentions: Houston Texans, Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets

Who do you guys think is the best team in the AFC? Only reason I don't mention the NFC is because I think we all agree that the Packers are a lock for number one .. 49ers may take second place though if you ask me.

"When I was in college, they said, 'The Steelers were getting old, and that this team is out of it.' That's every year. When you're the dominating team in the league, everyone's always trying to find a way to talk negative about you." - LaMarr Woodley

The 3 hottest teams are the Cheifs, Bengals and Steelers with 4 game winning streaks. Ask me when after everyone has had their bye week. I think the most impressive team has been Buffalo followed by Houston, both are undefeated so far in their division. Houston is looking more and more like they will lock up the AFC South, their goal now is to shoot for home field advantage.

I didn't see the game (high lights), but any time you get a win against the Pats it is a reason to celebrate.I do think Tom brady has struggled with getting the ball to the correct target at times this year and their defense is nothing to write home about. I see the Ravens being the Steelers main concern right now, The Ravens have a defense and Flacco is a better QB than some give him credit. If the Steelers can stay healthy coming down the stetch (the boot) Big Ben very well could take this team to the play offs if not the SB.

The Steelers, Bills, Bengals and Patriots in that order.

I'd say the AFC North is one of the best divisions right now. Steelers and Ravens are both tough, time proven team. The Bengals are also a huge surprise that could upset any team any weekend.

Hell.....The AFC North has CONSISTENTLY had TWO-teams....DEEP into the play-offs....for YEARS, now!!

People trash us.....at every opportunity....but, they always think it's a PRETTY-BIG-DEAL....every time they beat one-of-us!!!

Yes that is a tough division. The NFC Central is tough too.

I love it when folks are so exact about their opinions...saved....you will more than likely eat these words later... Putting the Pats last is your wisconsin fantasy! LMAO

Actually I like the Patriots. I have Tom Brady and Wes Welker on my Fantasy League Team. I just feel that their defense is weak this season.

most would agree with these top four..... maybe not in that order, but this is the cream of the crop!
