Other than the Marshall plane crash, probably the most tragic event in CFB in the last 100+ years.
Knute Rockne died a tragic death at age 43.
LONG LIVE ROCK!!!

This is a perfect example of allowing an individual to become larger than an institution. Never works.
It is really hard to imagine JoePA "not understanding" what McQueary was explaining to him. Also why McQueary didn't beat the s*** out of Sandusky. If it had been a 10 year old girl, I imagine he would have. Sad, sad, sad.

Its not a tradgedy .. it could have been prevented. Mashall was a tradgedy.

+1 and prevented at least 17 years ago by the sound of it.

Now finish the job. Send the responsible people and their accomplices to jail and let them get violated.

I just have no words. As a PA native and a teacher...this hits. HARD.

I wasn't talking about the sexual abuse. That is Beyond tragic.
I was talking about the firing and the damage to the football program and the University in general.
That's why I said 'in CFB'.
QUOTE(#14):
Our sympathies, Ms. G. I can assure you that this Buckeye fan feels absolutely no Schadenfreude...just a deep sense of anger and shame. (I'm a retired teacher myself. I feel your pain.)
The feelings we have are beyond heartbroken. I think of the anger. The shame, disbelief... Shock. I want so bad for this to somehow NOT be on Joe. I want so bad to rewind 20 years and it never to happen. I just keep thinking this is all a bad dream. How could the school I was raised to "emulate"....the man who I respected on the lines of my family...do this? I feel betrayal, yet shame at the same time. I think of those kids, and how they must feel now, and how they felt then. I look at my third graders and wonder "what would I do...I know I have to tell my superior. But beyond that?" I know what I would do if I saw it first hand....I'm not trying to defend Joe. He certainly did not do what he should have. But at the same time I feel bad for him. Not sorry for him, badly. I honestly think he thought at the time, he did what was right. I may be wrong...I may be naive.
I have many people on my facebook who are just coming down so hard. And I get it. But I've also had friends tell me I'm going to hades, and I'm just as guilty if I am still a fan.
I just can't fathom this. The most heinous of all crimes, committed by members of the school I loved more than life. I can't remember the last time I cried this much for a "story". Thanks for the sympathies, but the kids deserve them. I will eventually buck up and move on.

As of right now I believe that also.
We don't know how much he knew. We also don't know how extensive his efforts were to find out what happened. He apparently told his boss what he knew.
In hindsight it is very easy to say, 'He should have done this".
But at the time he may have thought his boss was handling the situation appropriately.
JoePa has caught so much hatred on here and in the media.
Where is the hatred for:
#1 - the perv
#2 - the board of un-trustables that allowed all of this
#3 - Spanier .. (#1 chain of command)
#4 - Shultz .... (#2 chain of command)
#5 - Curley ... (#3 chain of command .. and still an employee)
#6 - McQueary .. (original witness .. and still an employee)
?

Thanks for taking the time to share your feelings, Ms. G. You are right that the kids deserve our prayers and sympathy, especially since they have become almost an afterthought in how this story is getting covered.

CR,
The hatred for the perv is universal and deep....but he has been arrested, and the justice system will run its course. Spanier and Shultz have been fired, and are more than likely going to face the music. As for the BoT, Curley, and McQueary, the investigations by the Board of Education, AG's office, etc will dole out some sort of punishment to these people. Will it be enough? Don't know.
The reason JoePa is getting hammered by the Media (and everyone else) is that he was THE MAN at Penn State. He was the face, the "moral compass", the history, the legacy of Penn State Football, and by default or design, of the University. THIS is why there is so much against Joe. He built his persona on the fact "do the right thing." But, in this instance (and with such heinous crimes), he seems to have failed miserably.

1. November 17 is national UN-friend day.
2. You get why they are coming down hard on you? Why? You simply root for a team...you did not participate in or allow for these crimes.
3. Again, what does being a fan of a team have anything to do with what has transpired. Obviously, these crimes and events have shaken the foundation of PSU, but individualy fans will not be (and should not be) taking the blame (or punishment.)

The perv posted $100,000 bail. The justice system is failing miserably from the very beginning too!
I'll bet $100 to a donut, that Bradley, who replaced the perv in '99 and is now replacing JoePa, was privy to this situation too!
Cancel PSU football starting right now and at least a few years.
