Agree. I'm very happy with the choice of Matheny. Mike has a great baseball mind and from all reports will be completely prepared. His lack of managing experience doesn't really bother me with this team.

He did a great job calling the game from behind the plate. I think that he will do a good job calling it from the dugout.

I hope they keep McGwire too. Judging by comments from Craig and Freese, he's been instrumental in their development as hitters and given how important they will be to the Cards going forward I think it would be a good idea to keep him around.

I hope Albert and Mike got along well.....heard some rumors of Tampa offering Albert 270 mil for 9 years........we have no hope of our ownership matching that!!!

Tampa has no money to pay the players they have now. They couldn't pay Crawford the money he wanted, and James Shields will be traded before the trade deadline at the latest, if not during the Winter meetings. The Tampa rumor is nothing to worry about. Plus, 9 years @ $30 million a year is exactly what I would pay him...maybe not 9 years, but I would be in the $30 million range in salary. Albert has already given the Cards his "hometown discount."

I didn't even hear that Tampa was involved at all, but either way I like Matheny as the choice and I think they will sign Pujols.

I'm still pretty high on the Matheny hire. Time will tell if it is a good hire or not, but I like what I've seen so far.
