MMA  > General MMA  > What fight would you rather see on Superbowl weekend?

Have a serious question for you.

What fight would you rather see on Superbowl weekend?
Sonnen vs Anderson II or
GSP vs Diaz?

If I???m the UFC, I???m looking at Silva for the weekend- why?
GSP sells in Canada like silicone sells in LA. If the UFC wants to make a huge show on SB weekend, then they need a huge casual US buyrate- and Sonnen is that fight.

1. Diaz hates the press, Diaz hates to do anything to sell a fight except b#tch and complain about any slight.
Sonnen? Fuel TV could setup a 24/7 camera at his house and he would instantly putting action figures of Anderson in his toilets before the crew got there.

2. What outcome would stun you more- GSP over Diaz Rd 2 KO or Silva def Sonnen KO Rd 2?
I'll take money on the GSP/Diaz fight going 25 minutes vs a stoppage by either party. Any takers?
How about Silva/Sonnen ??? would any outcome stun you? Sonnen KO r5, Silva by split D, etc- I don???t think there is an outcome in that fight that would shock me half as much as Diaz KO-ing GSP.
I respect the heck out of GSP- but after watching Rd 1 of a GSP fight, normally you know how the next 20 minutes are going. Diaz is going to be far more interesting to see as an opponent with his gyrations and taunts, but if GSP treats him like Dan Hardy, then the excitement fails (yes I know Diaz is far better, but GSP riding Diaz like a **** star for 25 minutes is not out of the question)
Out of the 3 main events of UFC 100, guess witch fight has been rewatched the least by 99% of the people that own it- I???ll give you a hint, its not the one with the guy with the **** tattoo.

Bottom line, the UFC needs a fight that can fill a huge arena, and grab a monster buyrate and excite the casual fan. I loves me some GSP, but was I calling in sick to watch GSP/Diaz? If you took Condit/Penn off and that crap undercard, hells no. Its like TUF, I???m gonna watch it, but GSP simply does not get my world to stop (the last one was vs Hardy- shades of Serra there). Silva really doesn???t move my needle either- never know when you are going to getting the dancing machine again. Diaz is going to try and punish GSP- but is he THAT much better than Jake Sheilds? No offense to Ceasar Gracie, But this isn???t exactly Greg Jackson sending Keith Jardine out to scout on opponents for Rashad (5-0 BTW). Diaz wasn???t that close to a title shot when he left- and Cyborg isn???t rolling Koscheck anytime soon, now is he? Chael, on the other hand, earned a second title shot, IMNHO, and Stann is a lot scarier than Paul Daley.
Sonnen's win or go home mentality works wonders to the casual fan. Sonnen has no desire to be Rich Franklin at 185 and I???m not sure he can goto 170 and be effective.

Forget Diaz/GSP, the UFC should roll with a middleweight title bout on Superbowl weekend.

Well Anderson is out with an injury until June so I'm gonna have to go with Diaz vs GSP. They just added Kos vs Condit on that same card too so it should be really good.

I'm looking forward to Kos and Condit more than GSP\Diaz. I get tired of GSP jabbing someone into submission or doing the bump and hump for five rounds.

Kos is going to own Condit.

The natural born killer might be able to get him in the stand up, but Kos will probably take him down and crush him with ground and pound.

Nope. Condit is going to go after that eye that GSP mangled and mangle it some more. KO rd 2 for Condit.

if both fights were an option

Sonnen's fighting Munoz on UFC on Fox 2 in January the week prior to the Superbowl.
VERY smart of the UFC to put Sonnen on network TV first. This will make his fight vs. Silva in June a true PPV hit as Sonnen will have a major forum to run his mouth and hype it up.

GSP and Brock are the only 2 consistent proven PPV sellers at this point. Even Bones Jones isn't there yet. The UFC made the right call. Diaz is also an easy villain to market and fights a fan friendly style.

Its pretty hard to KO someone from your back.

You have to be on your back first and that isn't going to happen. Kos hasn't tried to take anyone down since he found out he could actually use his fists to win a fight. He isn't going to realize he needs to take Condit down to win until his trainer and the ring side physician rub the smelling salts under his nose.

Really? I hadn't heard June. I heard early 2012. Either way, I'd of course rather see Anderson -Sonnen.

Rather see sonnen andseron 2 but I heard June also

Agreed

Nah. Kos is a much smarter fighter than you give him credit for. He knew Daley could catch him and knew Daley had no TDD, so he took him down at will. He knows Condit has questionable TDD, so he'll take him down and grind him up. I like Condit, but this is a bad matchup for him.

Condit is no slacker off his back though and he can throw some problems Kosh's way even when lying down on the job.

Good points. And Sonnen is going to smother Munoz.

Agreed Munoz steam will look all for not!
