You can always put a gag order clause in T.O.'s contract that stipulates that if he makes negative comments toward the team he will be fined and/or fired and the 49ers would not be obligated to pay him for the rest of the season. T.O. and his agent (Drew Rosenhaus) are not in the position to make demands, they can take it, or leave it, and who knows he might even pick up a Super Bowl Ring. The playing time would only enhance his possibility of being picked up by a team next year, if he proved to be a productive team player.
Gag order's sound good, in theory, but in practice an emotional player like TO just can't control himself when it counts. He's too disruptive. Same thing about Randy Moss. Both players are too much about themselves, and not enough about the team. It would mess with the humility and team chemistry of these niners.
Agree that the niners' WRs are sometimes ham-fisted. Alex Smith does throw erratically and unpredictably high, though. Still. (Tape his right-hand ring finger and pinkie together. Gotta keep the ball's nose down even on arcing throws.)
TO might be workable and explosive if he comes in humble and ernest enough... willing to work, learn the system, keep a low profile while shutting the #&!* up, and, above all, respect teammates who've produced an 8-1 record. A footballing TO takes this team over the top, possibly. An ego-driven TO would quickly become a waste of valuable practice time (da media!) and a distraction not worth the trouble.
Braylon Edwards needs to come out and explain why he was dropping those balls and holding his arm in pain. If he isn't healed he shouldn't be playing. Someone needs to explain to him that it is that time of year when there are no excuses for dropped balls.

How do you enforce the gag order and control him in the locker room? I would like to see TO come in and do well (good business for the NFL and high drama) but don't see it happening.

Yeah fine line between playing hurt and hurting your team. In today's NFL you miss a game you may be gone....tough business

Who knows, having T.O. may provide another miracle game winning catch against the Green Bay Packers during the playoffs.
Niner's do not need T. Owens, granted he is a future H.O.F he would not be a good fit for Frisco right now. Let's look at one obvious thing here. B. Edwards has been hurt for a lot of the season, which means that we have not utilized him anyway this year. That being said, we have been winning games without B.Edwards and will hopefully continue to do so, if he is in fact too hurt to play.
Alex smith has done expectational this year compared to his last 6 seasons. He is making all the right decisions(instead of forcing a ball and looking like Mike Vick) and he looks comfortable for the first time since he hurt his wrist in the beginning of the season two years ago(if my memory serves right). If you bring in T.O. at this important part of the season you risk the stability of the offense. He brings in to many cons to overlook some of the pros he could potentially bring to the Niner's. But then again, this only my two cent's worth.

Edwards was benched because he was missing balls, whether he is hurting or not he has been unproductive. Kyle Williams is nice but the receivers they have are injury prone, and they have a thin roster of WR's'
Wr- Josh Morgan out for season
Wr- Braylon Edwards- don't know how healthy he is, Knee and elbow
Wr-Michael Crabtree- foot, week to week
Wr-Ted Ginn
Wr- Brett Swain
Wr-Kyle Williams, was a third stringer, now starting
Te- Vernon Davis
Te-Delanie Walker
Te- Justin Peelle- back up FB for injured Bruce Miller
The need to bring in a WR or TE or soon you will be asking Colin Kaepernick to play WR, I'm sure he could do a better job than Braylon ( whoops I'm injured again) Edwards. Kaepernick is bigger and faster than Edwards.
T.O. is finally where he deserves to be...alone and out to pasture.....good riddance

Again Braylon Edwards shows that his mind is not in the game. 1- He could have prevented an interception or at least put up a battle for the ball in the end zone. 2- Near the end of the game he ran a route that was short on a 4th and 1 yd. Earlier in the day during the Dallas vs Miami game Brandon Marshall went up and caught the ball even with a Dallas defender all over him, something Edwards is unwilling to do. Next week SF needs to throw the ball at least 10 times to Edwards so we can see what he is made of. If he doesn't have more than 80 yds receiving then SF needs to call T.O. and during next years draft need to seriously look towards drafting a receiver or getting a quality WR in free agency.
I'm not going to let this subject drop as long as T.O. is available or as long as there is SPAM on the SI message boards. Which ever comes first.
San Francisco- Pick up the Phone, their is no guarantee that Braylon Edwards will ever get healthy, you only have 4 weeks to phone or Tweet T.O..
