NFL  > General NFL  > ENOUGH of the INCOMPETENT refs calls already!
November 21, 2011, 03:22 PM
The NFL's refs are becoming a laughing stock of late. EVERY game we expect them to blow it on the tough calls, and even when using a second set of eyes (replay booth) we expect them to loose a call every so often. It's a tough job, but seriously, what's been going on of late is insane. The last straw was the inexcusable blown call in the Cinci/Balt game that even had Peter King today scratching his head. LAST TIME I CHECKED REFS, WHEN THE BALL CROSSES/TOUCHES THE FRONT PART OF THE WHITE LINE, IT'S A TD!!! The very instant it does. NOT when the player or the ball finally rest on the ground after crossing the plane of the goal line. Seriously, you idiots believe what you called is the correct interpretation of the rule?

SOOOOOO, that being said (or in this case...screwed up), it's time the refs get their just do's. If players are going to get fined for their actions on and off the field, the refs need to be held accountable too. It's time to dock them pay, or even suspend them game(s) for these failures during the game. Their actions can weigh heavily on the outcome, just as any players action(s) can, such as a penalty (by coincidence, thrown by a ref!) during the game.

Hey NFL, it's time the game was maintained evenly, and fairly. That means blasting the refs every so often with a stiff penalty of their own when needed. MAYBE, just maybe, this will keep the refs in check, and prevent them from throwing flags when we all know they're only in it for their 15 minutes of fame every game.

HEY...THIS is my rant!? The NFL will NEVER admit they have Refs who make mistakes and fine them. The closest they admit to less then perfection is when they "grade" them out on Tuesdays and score that for the Playoffs. Everyone gets and "A", only the "+As" get to go to the playoffs

I had a feeling this would be party central, but I posted it because no one else had it up the time I looked. Oh well, at least we think a like!

the reffs know if they screw-up they won't be able to ''reff'' any playoffs/superbowl-game that year/season.

I want them fined a days pay, or partial pay for EACH game, not the known cumulative effect they have in place now. Some of these guys are lawyers (Ed Hoc for instance in AZ), and could care less perhaps if they don't get their TV time in for the playoffs. They still have a another high end job waiting in the wings.

bad calls nearly each game....... dallas got screwed on a fair catch punt call that was clearly determined to NOT be a penalty in the replay, but was not overturned. understand things happen so quickly that not all calls are going to be correct. BUT, when you have a replay booth on the sidelines to review plays AND they still make bad calls...... totally unacceptable!!!!

Of course the refs stink. They are too old and too slow to keep pace with the players.

could have been the longhorn game...... didn't get enough sleep last nite to remember the game. maybe i'm watching too much football..... is that possible???

Was just kidding, no one owns anything around here....I did have a post but our energetic Mods couldn't keep up with the Spammers to keep my work ANYWHERE near the top! I like your rant as we need to bring this forward in DROVES to draw attention to the ref incompetance.

Bet you an internet dollar that someone will come on here and quote the "rule", the heck with the rule, that IS the problem, the way the rule is written is contradictory to the other ways a touchdown is scored..."crossing the goal line".

I've moaned that they need to hire young athletes to get this done. Not people OLDER than me. Seems there is some apprenticeship that must be endured starting in Pop-Warner to graduate to HS, College, NFL etc etc...
Well in the USAF we take a 21 yr college grad and have him flying fighters in a YEAR! Flying jets may not be "Rocket Surgery" (joke blending of rocket science and brain surgery) but I tell you it is a bit harder than NFL officiating, and oh by the way you need 20/20 vision to do the flying.

I just think the refs need to be dis'd as much as the players AFTER EACH game, not at the end of the season.

LOL, nailed it. I saw one guy, must have been in his 50's at least, fall over on his face from exhaustion a few years back. Shouldn't these guys have harder physical stress tests to be a ref?
