NFL  > Dallas Cowboys  > Turkey Day win lies with the Def Ends for Dallas.....

Dallas has been woefully inadequate in getting sacks from the DEs. Ware has 14 of the 26 from the team--more than half. Hatcher, Ratliff and Spears total 5. As Ware flushes the QB back into the pocket these lineman need to be ready to shed the block and swallow the QB. Grossman stepped forward and fired strikes, he did this all day last Sunday. Unless these lineman can start getting some sacks then the secondary will continue taking a pounding. With just a bit of pressure on the QB then Ryan's defense has a chance to get in the top 5, until that happens they will struggle to win games. The offense is good, the defense needs to get better. I would like to see Ryan cycle in lineman in with fresh legs on passing downs. J Johnson had a full stable of guys who came in fresh and wreaked havoc.

Hey JD,
Cowboys just squeaked it out, Skins played well and Gano gave them a gift in his two misses. As Luck would have it Phins are on a tear! 3 in a row with strong defense. Worried for my guys--as usual. How's the "suck for Luck" campaign going? And your town is hosting the Superbowl, ironic.

That is the issue with a 3-4 defense...rarely do the guys in the middle have enough speed to generate pressure.

That pressure should come from the middle linebackers that are blitzing in this scheme.

The D did not play well vs the Skins that is for sure but, they did have a big stop in OT that forced the long FG that missed right.

The D is in the Top 10 and that is a HUGE improvement from being 30th a year ago.

This is the time of year Garrett needs to be the person we are told he is. We didn't really see it last week almost losing to an inferior foe with very much on the line. In the spirit of Thanksgiving the Cowboys should be giving huge thanks for getting the chance to win last week and then doing it. Play like they did last week and you will lose more often than you win. Time for Garrett to coach 'em up like Jimmy used to do.

Yep, can't just put it on auto-pilot and hope for the best. Goal is plan (coach) for the worst then hope for the best. Going all "short armed" and nervous will not get it done in the NFL. Take smart chances, exploit the other guys weakness and hammer 'em. I don't think 'ol Princeton is that kind of coach. And Ryan is the opposite, too brash and when something is not working too slow to make the change. FRESH LEGS Rob, put in FRESH LEGS.

Leon Lett's name came up earlier which is not a surprise. I found this article in the Dallas Morning News:

DALLAS -- It is a moment that can still make some Dallas Cowboys fans wince.

It is a split-second mistake that has haunted former Cowboy Leon Lett for 18 years.

He touched a ball, costing the team the Thanksgiving Day game against Miami in 1993.

"We have this thing called the 24 hour rule," said Lett. "Where you don't get too high on the plays you make, the great plays. And you don't get too low on the terrible plays. But that play stuck with me a little bit longer than 24 hours for sure."

For 18 long years, actually, Lett has been reminded of that blunder on almost a daily basis. Even more so closer to Thanksgiving.

There was a chance at redemption, if he could get the votes.

Snickers put together a mockumentary at the beginning of football season, asking fans to vote on Lett's forgiveness. He gladly agreed.

He has had to learn a lot about forgiveness. Starting with himself.

"I think forgiveness is something we all can do," Lett said. "You have to forgive yourself. And you have to forgive some of the people that do things, you know the petty things that we hold in. Just let it go."

Lett said he talks to his 13-year-old daughter about forgiveness, too.

English Poet Alexander Pope once famously wrote, "To err is human, to forgive divine." Words that have been hard to live by for Cowboys fans when it comes to Leon Lett.

Until that Snickers campaign.

"I've forgiven myself," Lett said. "And now, 25,000 other people have forgiven me as well."

He will publicly, and with good humour, accept redemption in what's being called "a ride of redemption," before the '93 rematch of Dallas and Miami, on Thanksgiving Day this Thursday.

He gets my vote! He was not part of Special Team PATs/FGs. J Johnson can tell you why he was in, I can't recall. He didn't know the "code word" for stay away, people were probably all shouting it and that only added to the confusion. I'm gonna look for this on YouTube now. I think it is a great idea, he seems to be a good sport about it. If you recall what kind of lineman he was you can easily overlook the gaffe. He made LOTS of plays, many in the backfield--a beast.

See the "Movie" here;

Funny and some interesting characters, my fave may be the "dog walker".

Snickers has some good ads; Betty White, Abe Vigoda....for example

I'm not overly concerned with the DE's not putting up big sack numbers. They really aren't supposed to in this scheme. I'm more concerned about the LB's not named Ware being unable to get to the QB regularly.

I really expected more from Spencer than the 4 he's gotten thus far especially since at least one of them that I recall he wasn't even chasing the QB but rather the QB was chased by Ware into him and he was able to disengage long enough to get credit for a sack. Also thought we'd see more from the inside LB's and even the corners with the exotic blitz packages.

Ryan's scheme hasn't been as disruptive as we were led to believe it would be with a couple of exceptions...notably the 49ers game.

There's a good clip on youtube on Leon Lett and that game....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2kcpTmheM4
